I think it’s worth it cause there’s always a chance that, based on your genes, you get recruited to a top secret Hydra like government program that tries to make you into a super soldier.

Anecdotally, yeah, I have concerns about privacy. This whole concept is still very new and I’m not comfortable sharing my genetic code with a company until I see how that information is used over the next decade. I also have potential healthcare/insurance concerns if the test shows a predisposition for something terrible.
The company has no easy path to profitability so it will likely choose to commercialize its data, i.e., sell it to third parties. The data is anonymized and de-identified, but there are common genetic markers that could make identifying the owner of 23andme’s data possible by working from already identified DNA. I did one of these kits, but probably wouldn’t if I had a choice again because there’s no changing your DNA once it’s out there like you can with a credit card and getting the results was a short-lived novelty and not very enlightening.
I have concerns with sharing any type of data. There isn’t a corporation in the world that is immune to data breaches. I might overcome this fear if the corps were liable for any harm that resulted from the breach, but so far all the DOJ and similar state justice branches have managed to compel is credit monitoring. As if that does me any good, I’m already able to dispute info on my report that is not attributable to me. So yes, until the privacy policies allow me to hold these corps responsible I try to limit the information I willingly hand over. DNA would seem to bring about a whole slew of new issues.

I did it - have zero concerns about my data. It’s all anonymized so who cares.
After they caught the Golden State Killer with Ancestry .com data, I feel we all should be using these services so we can see if our uncles are serial killers 😂
Ditto here. Lol. Not really sure what data people are worried about. Is it such a huge privacy concern if someone find out I have high cholesterol or a higher risk of cancer? If we can find some serial killers then sounds like a win to me. 🤷♀️😂
Concerns about data. And the stories about broken homes in the aftermath while riveting to me also seem a bit weird.
Got to admit I was kind of tempted but yes privacy/data concerns and also just felt a bit weird trying to determine my nationality/ethnicity
