Life isn’t fair
Add value
Radiate that value
Cultivate relationships with powerful people
I agree with this and also would add know when it's time to leave/make a move. Some people will never see your value, but you don't need everyone. Figure out what your goal is. Maybe it's as simple as finding a few allies as Mck suggests, maybe it's a team with great culture, or moving toa new office for more community, maybe you just want a promotion. OP, figure out what you want/what would make the situation better. We can't change other people, we only have control of ourselves and our choices.
It can be tough out there, and black women, sometimes get the shortest end of the stick. Hang on in there, you’ll find someplace or team that’ll appreciate you.
No...unless you are white washed and identify with them culturally
And still no… even then
Give us some context?
Currently in the DC area and it just feels like my work isn’t appreciated. I overperformed my first year at the firm and got burned for reviews/bonuses. The clients recognize how much I do and express appreciation in meetings, but my lead/manager disregards my accomplishments
Come to EY!
Maybe what EY noted (I will be joining EY soon). sadly, I feel like consulting isn’t for Black/POC in general, but I am trying to make it better… but my ass stay getting in trouble for calling out poor leadership; I am not reward trust that lol ! Also, 75% if my mentors are AA women, which I always acknowledge they have it way harder then myself. Sadly, the ones that make it to senior leadership roles, tend to make it harder on other AA/POC women, which bothers me. I use to work at CGI too. Feel free to DM I am happy to support and connect you in anyway.
There probably aren’t many unfortunately, but are you able to talk about this with any black women at your company?
They will most likely have the most practical advice and understand you best. It would probably be something you can actually use to improve your situation.
You know what's funny I never had an issue with a client my issue is always with a manager or wannabe manager who have no people skills it's annoying lol or watch your every mistake
Try moving to an Atlanta or NJ office of your firm
At my company, Atlanta is one of the worst for black women.
