Me. This bowl really strays from the original gestalt of FIRE, which was about frugality and a high savings rate and being fine on less money than the traditional country-club definition of wealth. If you haven’t already read Mr Money Mustache— he’d be outraged by posts in this bowl along on the lines of “I need 20 million to retire.” SMH.
Creatives still paid a ton of money compared to most professions and we can FIRE easily.
I agree, Account Manager. I definitely adjusted my number as I saved. But I was reacting to OP who joked that creatives aren’t really represented in the numbers we’re reading here. People saying they NEED 3 mil to retire depresses others who will never have that much.
People tossing around the word “frugal” totally annoys me. Anyone who says they live “frugally”, yet is buying a 6k purse and needs millions to retire, has a different definition of “frugal” than the FIRE movement originally intended. “I need 3 million”—that’s called financial independence. Skip frugal.
Here to be sad mostly 🤣
Lollll same
Not a creative, but agency and media side. Idk how to get to these $300k+ HHI levels I'm seeing... I think we're in the wrong industry
We are forced to retire early. Have you ever seen a retirement party at an ad agency, ever?
I know you’re joking but when was the last time you were ever at any retirement party? That’s not how the work world operates anymore. I know plenty of creatives in their 60s still working.
👋🏻
I mean, I’m here. But, it’s more to just remind myself that I 100% am doing this work life thing wrong. It’s my daily reminder to do better.
I’m here cause there’s no one over the age of 50 at my agency. I’m 24 and it freaks me out.
Relax. I’m 61. I know plenty of creatives my age or older who work steadily. Just focus on saving a ton of money now so that when you’re older, you can relax and freelance if you want.
