I literally just went back to school and is getting a certification all while running a sole-proprietor business. And oh, I also have 2 children under 10. I don't even know how I do it honestly. I sometimes pause and realize how much I have on my plate.

I try to build some intentional low-executive function time into my schedule on a daily/weekly basis like someone would budget for Starbucks or Uber Eats. This helps relieve some guilt!

like

Make an appointment with yourself to let the mind wander. Before starting, take inventory of all the tools you might need like some headphones or a speaker, a notepad for any ideas or thoughts that come up.

You can do it with or without technology, but I don’t recommend excluding technology 100% of the time. Reason being: carving out a half hour to intentionally spend on social media - or whatever else comes to mind naturally, allows you to look forward to that time in anticipation, and carry less guilt after.

I also use a 5-second countdown to help with executive functioning. When there’s something to do and you find yourself stuck, count down from 5. You won’t start counting down unless you’re committed, then by the time you get to 1 you’re usually already up 👍🏻

Seeing as how this is a bowl for ADHD Professionals, I assume we’re all high functioning

like

"Professional" is a pretty broad term, though. I consider myself a professional no matter what work I'm doing, even though I tend to work menial jobs. And I would say that I'm moderately functional.

I have highs and lows. When I am at a high I get everything done in almost a manic phase and then in my lows have no energy to do anything.

Yep - although sometimes it's not as high of a functioning as I'd like....

If you mean high functioning as good at my job, then yes. But if you mean “successful at achieving potential” then no; swinging way below my theoretical max to account for the times when I’m functioning at minimum

I don’t think “high functioning” exists in our world. We all have moments where we’re at peak performance. Then we let off the gas and slow down to a standstill. We always figure out how to get the job down or accomplish something. But our personal life will be a absolute mess. It’s always some type of give or take.

If you are asking because you're considered neurotypical and want to try to understand someone who stated they would describe themselves this way then; This is an extremely loaded question that Fishbowl doesn't have a large enough character allowance to actually answer.
If you are describing yourself and asking this question then please just ask us the 10 other questions you've already considered but haven't included because the rest of us already have the next 12 answers on the tip of our tongue.

I think it is more about finding what gets you “in the groove” consistently. I find that I do my best heads down work in the morning (long running/high focus tasks) and prefer to be in meetings or do transactional tasks in the afternoon.

I am. For the most part. When I go off my medication though I will say I am not quite as high functioning...I hate to admit that hahaha.

I’m a high functioning Real Estate Agent, Fund Manager managing Real Estate and Crypto assets. My adhd keeps me jiggling between both asset classes and still have ambitions to get into Venture Capital. Ideas are endless. The hard part is the time blocking discipline. Ever since I stopped multi tasking it has been easier to tackle projects and focus.

Hey all,
I’m due for my second booster and am 29 weeks pregnant. I had the JJ originally, then boosted with Moderna.
When I asked my OB she didn’t really recc or not recc the vax, she just said that I was qualified to get it. My last booster was before I was pregnant. If this was the first shot I’d def get it but im wondering if the booster is worth it now or if I should wait until I’m breast feeding?

The past few weeks I’ve been feeling devoid of any passion/interest (been building up over time though), there have been days where I just lie in bed either feeling numb or wanting to go to sleep as an escape.

Luckily on working days I’m able to keep up my productivity enough, but mainly just because I find myself with no appetite or too busy to eat, so I’ve started to lose some weight too.

Started on meds, but to anyone else who’s gone through similar, how did you start to work through it?

I have a period of time (~2 years) where I worked multiple part time jobs. One job was with a FAANG so that’s easy to put on my resume.
