Are there any negatives to rolling over your 401k into an IRA while you still work at your current company? I’d prefer to have more flexibility in my investments via my Rollover IRA if I can

Did you check with your 401k plan? Most employer plans don’t allow you to rollover funds while still an active employee.

like

Kpmg does but it may be limited to after tax (not Roth) contributions.

Makes backdoor Roth contributions difficult in future

Why not roll to Roth IRA?

Some 401k accounts have access to lower cost institutional funds - basically low cost versions of funds that would be available in an IRA

Correct - my recommendation was based on the assumption that OPs plan allows in service withdrawals. Agreed to the other comment that some good 401k plans allow access to institutional funds with way less expense ratios.

If you're still employed you haven't had a distribution event.

My firm pays contract partners using a K-1. Is that normal? The taxes are crazy - we have offices in so many states and with the cap on the SALT deduction it is awful. Also do firms provide matching 401k for contract partners? I am at an Amlaw 200 firm (not Biglaw) for comparison purposes. I’m not trying to compare to the really high end firms. Just trying to figure out if I’m getting as raw a deal as it seems.

Should I open an IRA Roth account? Need suggestion on better allocation. Im mid 20s, making 80K pre-tax. My allocation is as followed: 1) 401k account has only $21K. 5% in Roth and 3% in pre-tax, no IRA account yet. My company matches 100% up til 3%, and 50% til 5%. 2) 85K in stocks, including both base and profits 3) 50K in real estate 4) 25K emergency funds. No debt. Should I open an IRA roth account and max it out? Not sure what my goal is. Im 40% high risk high reward, 60% stability.
