I started at EY at 33 as a Senior 2 and just made manager going on 36. I'm already viewed as a better leader and mentor than the seasoned managers who are younger than me. PPEDs are assigning counselees to me over M2s and above who still have no counselees. Use life experience to your advantage OP

Just figure out what you're good at and become known for it. I'll never have industry knowledge compared to my peers since I made a complete career change after 10.5 years experience. But I know how to Network and identify talent for engagements better than most so I'm always brought into proposals

@SM1 And at what age did you become a douche?

Not so humble humble brag^

SM1 nobody was looking for you. Why are you here?

We had a 55 year old associate with us at the new associate training. He was more chill than us 22 year olds. Awesome guy

I was a late starter and hit senior round 27. I know plenty of seniors in early 30s and above. Frankly, anyone who disregards their value, doesn't understand the business

Consider life like beer. Both are fun only if chilled. Don't worry, be happy!

I made senior manager at 29

I'll be 32 when I start as an associate next summer. Intern hire. Everyone thinks I'm younger though. I'm a college senior, so I'm used to being older than my peers.

^ similar experience. When current SMs were busy stapling decks together for meetings or busy making sure decks were pretty enough for a client 10 years ago, I was busy running construction projects all over Northern Iraq and traveling in convoys to inspect them

Made SC at 30 as well. Does not entirely matter where you start. What matters is how well you end your career.

31. Was in mba from 28-30.

32.. came from industry and grad school. Just remember OP we have more life experience and are typically more mature than others.

End of the day, consulting is just a relationship, longevity, loyalty game. It's not hard to figure out. Much easier to make Partner at Big 4 than MD at a bulge bracket. Just pay your dues and wait your turn

OP - a different perspective, that's for sure. I was at Launch a few weeks ago and the majority of interns around me were 9 or 10 years old when I was fighting a war around the same age they all are now.

I have a good friend who is early 40s and a senior. He gets M and SM opportunities though bc people trust him-came from industry but went into an area that was brand new for him.

Wish me luck. On Wednesday I’m starting a weekly running club for the next 6 weeks. We’ll all be vaccinated. I found the group via local Fleet Feet. TBH I’ve never ran in a group before, I’ve always been solo, unless running a race. I just hope I can keep up. We start at 6:30 in the morning. 😳 I’m up typically at 5 AM without an alarm clock but actually putting on clothes by that time is another story. Also…I’ve gained at least 15 lbs this past year so there’s that…

I am interinterviewing for 2 jobs. I got offered the 1st already but I am more interested in the 2nd one cause it pays more. 2nd one I am still in the interview process. Do I hedge my risk accept the first one and then just hop ship if I get 2nd one. Consideration is that it is the same industry so people talk but honestly if I was a white man I wouldn't even think about being judged for hopping if something better lands but as a WOC , there are these extra issues to deal with (Cont..)
