I tried it and it unfortunately didn’t work for me. I think the nature of transactional work can make it difficult and I just couldn’t make it work. I will edit to add that it definitely went both ways. It’s hard to pull back when you are in the middle of a deal and want to see something through or if an important call is scheduled for Friday and that’s your flex day but you don’t want to miss out. What I have heard works for some is if you do find you are going full steam for a month or two on a deal then commit to taking two weeks off or whatever it is to get you back to 80%.

I was 80%/85%/90% for 8 years. What worked for me was taking fewer deals but still going full steam ahead on those. I definitely took more vacation on a reduced schedule. 4 days a week would not have worked for me, but I WFH one day every other week (back when it wasn’t a thing). I still had full time childcare; it really was meant to bring me down to 40 hours or so per week. I loved it, in part because of the mental health benefit of being able to ignore my hours. That said, I went over my target in all 8 years but one (I was compensated for it). Also, I’m in a transaction adjacent practice - I do all M&A but it’s all support, which lessens the crazy burden.

Went in for a scan yesterday because I was having spotting and cramping at 12 weeks. The OB saw fluid behind the baby’s neck and is referring us to see a high risk doctor immediately. NIPT was negative. I’m panicking. Have any of you been through this?

What is the federal parental leave policy? I’m new to government and having a baby soon. I know we’re given 12 weeks and have to sign an agreement to work 12 weeks after we return but are there other stipulations to a claw back period or how long we had to be at the agency first?

Hello! I see a ton of questions in here about interviewing and getting hired as a PM. I also know that it’s really hard as a manager to hire a great team. I’m the head of product at a growing startup, and just hired two PMs in 3 months. One a career switcher who’d never been a PM before, and one a seasoned principal PM. Whether you are someone who’s interviewing or someone who’s hiring right now, ask me anything!

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?
