WC supervisor here. I only have my MO adjusters transfer if there is lost time, litigation, or complex injury. My MO adjusters typically see anywhere from 25-45 new claims per month. That’s just the nature of the MO desk - high volume, but they (usually) have short lives, so they often get close to 100% closing ratio each month too.
Thank you for this information. It was very helpful. We manage the claims during the rehab, issue denials, authorize all medical treatments as appropriate, assign NCM, collaborate with attorneys as needed, obtain IME and cover letter, and authorize surgery. Our average claim count is about 250. No surprise there, as you stated, the MO claims are higher volume. However, I am trying to evaluate if the typical MO Adjuster has the same job responsibilities. Even after surgery, if IW returns to work within the LT waiting period, the claim remains with the MO Adjuster. I feel like I am stuck in between an MO Adjuster and LT Adjuster that handles low complex LT claims. I would like to be mentored to do LT claims and I'm always willing to learn new skills and obtain any certifications if needed, just trying to see if that door exists. Any information or recommendations is much appreciated.
Sr claim rep here. Back in the day when I was a MO adjuster starting out, once there was LT or even the indication of possible LT, that file got transferred. Surgery without lost time? That still stayed with the LT adjuster. Never came back to MO. Not sure what state you’re in, but where I’m at, we have impairment ratings which most of the time would follow surgeries anyways. So, no sense in those coming back to the MO. Sounds like you already do LT work. Might as well get the title and get paid for it. For designations, the SCLA is something to consider. Look up AEIclaimslaw.com. Goodluck to ya 👍
