Idk I am naturally not a morning person and have experienced this issue too. I just accepted Im not a morning person and work out in the evenings.
Yeah this might be unhelpful but I fully gave up on morning workouts. Even if I jump out of bed immediately, I just don’t physically feel up to it. Evening workout ftw
And that’s why I’m an evening exerciser 😁
Get a pre workout with caffeine in the AM
Are you working out in the evening and want to change to the morning, or you’re not working out at all? Evening is better in some ways. Your muscles are looser after being awake for hours and if you’ve been sitting at a desk it will help with your back.
If you’d really like change though, I recommend reading The Power of Habit. Gives you strategies to beat inertia
Yea I read that book, it was great. But I feel like I can’t stick to a routine because my schedule keeps changing and I lose motivation if I break the chain.
I’m not working out at all right now. Evening seems unreliable because many times there’s something going on so I want to set a habit of working out in the morning. But maybe I just to do evenings at this rate
Set your gym clothes and gear out the eve before.
Go to bed earlier
Start small
I am not a morning person at all and got myself to do this.
Get enough sleep. Don’t plan on going when you have very early meetings or get to bed really late. Set a time you have to get up by.
Start with shorter, easier workouts to make it more bearable as you get into the swing of things. If treadmill is your end goal, start with elliptical if that’s easier for you until you get more used to AM work outs. Start with even 20 or 30 minutes at first if you have to.
Set out your things. I’m talking granola bar, headphones, socks, literally everything. Make is as physically easy as possible to get to the gym.
Find some content that you like to watch or read or listen to and have it ready to go. Nothing worse than struggling through a morning jog on the treadmill without any entertainment.
Track it. For some reason, my type a personality doesn’t like to miss things when I’m tracking them on a piece of paper. I don’t do this anymore, but when I first started this helped.
If I can do this, trust me it’s possible and a game changer.
It's easier to pick up the habit in the summer when it's bright at 5.
However, I had to force myself to do it for 2 weeks till it became easier. Waking up and working out in the morning will also get you to bed by 9:30
Pre workout
Accept that it is not for you and do it in the afternoon/evening.
Book a workout class that charges you $20 if you don’t show up (classpass) works for me!!
I like making it as easy as possible to do the morning workout. My bag is packed, water ready, sleep in my workout gear, etc. The only thing I have to do/think about is getting out of bed.
Not really. If I’m not working out I sleep in shorts and a tank top, it’s not all that different.
5 hour energy first thing in the morning
Find a class and an accountability partner for that class. I hit up a 5:30 am Bootcamp 6 days a week bc I know people in the class and they’ll call me out if I no show
I actually like getting up and going earlier when I really look forward to my work out (which is strength training so do what you like) and also I like the thought of not thinking about having to go to the gym in the evening and having it for catching up with friends or youtube or movies or quality SLEEP.
Just do it. Don’t over think it. Count to 5 and HOP UP. Have everything you need ready to go
I committed to workout every morning at 6:00. It’s not easy but definitely doable.
To everyone else’s point; I’m not a morning person either but motivate myself with preworkout. Have it near your bed so you can’t go back to sleep
Organize your things the night before, go to sleep early, don’t allow yourself to debate if you have to get up - just do it, have a set morning routine, repeat until it’s a habit.
