Are there benefits for an MBA/JD? I am in M&A consulting and many on the business side have mentioned they regret not staying the extra year to get the JD. Would I be wasting my time or would it be of benefit? Considering Northwestern, Penn, Columbia, and Cornell as a safety for next fall’s admission cycle.

Don’t get a JD unless you plan on becoming a lawyer. It’s a waste of time/money otherwise.

like

Sometimes. A recruiter can sometimes negotiate it.

like

If you’re getting a JD and want to layer the MBA on top then definitely worth it. Allows you to more easily transition out of big law into a more business oriented role (a hybrid position that allows you to do both, in a way). If you’re getting your MBA and thinking about getting a JD, then don’t. Law school doesn’t teach you how to become a lawyer, so unless you work at a law firm nobody will actually care that you had a JD.

like

Maybe. It sounds like OP wants to practice law though.

like

JD/MBA here. You’re probably better off looking into LLM programs that focus on a specific element of the law (i.e., banking or corporate compliance). Unless you want to be a licensed attorney, a JD just isn’t worth it IMO.

like

That’s an option as well, but the goal is to be a practicing attorney.

like

From my perspective, it’s a gift and a curse. Some in-house teams are actually quite wary of hiring JD-MBAs for legal roles out of concern that they’re less-than-committed to purely legal work. So it really depends on your ultimate goal.

Hi everyone! I was hoping to receive some advice with how to transition to product management. I'm currently a senior medical secretary, 2 years of experience, at a well know hospital with a BA in psych and econ and a certificate in PM (thought I would at least get that since my job pays for it). I've been applying for PM or APM roles since March 2022 at various hospitals and healthcare companies but I've yet to get a shot at a 1st interview. Any ideas on how to improve my odds?

2017 grad so technically a 4th year. Lateraled to a CRE boutique in NYC that’s a major player. Learned quickly that my experience/knowledge/organization is not up to par (was a COG in the machine at prior firm). Just had EOY review and, though positive sounding, they’re dropping me to a 3rd year to ensure I’m not billing as a 4th year and able to do the work to learn/get up to par. I feel pretty okay about it (market salary deduction notwithstanding), but want to make sure I’m not being naive.
