Are there companies in the industry that will pay for employees to get their P&C or CPCU? Or even allow for hours during the work day to be designated towards them?

Yes! Most companies due tuition reimbursement. Mine paid for my CLCS a few years ago

State Farm does!

Liberty Mutual will pay all your expenses, provide a monetary bonus on completion and pay for your travel to the conferment ceremony (not sure if they still cover that last part though)

like

They do pay for conferment and also up to $5000 (or 5% of your salary) for charter level designations.

like

State Farm did not sure if they still do. I worked there years ago.

like

I worked at StateFarm just about 1 year ago and know people that still work there. Yes they do still pay for you to get professional certifications

Most carriers will pay for CPCU (might require supervisor approval), but most will not give you study time during with hours. Totally worth doing CPCU, especially if the goal is to get out of claims.

like

Without question CPCU will give you a giant leg up to move to UW

like

Markel - including study time during the work day as projects permit. My daily tasks are priority but if I can manage my projects, I can have 1 hour of my workday dedicated to studying.

like

Most of big companies will pay for the major designations (CPCU, CLU, ChFC) . When I was with State Farm, they paid for my CPCU registration, books and even paid me to travel for conferment. They also allowed me to take half day during test days. However, the study time was all on my personal time outside work.

Hanover does

like

Chubb does

Crum and Forster will help pay and depending on your supervisor, they’ll give you a field day to study.

Kemper does.

Those of you who left for industry, what do you work towards in your role? I was reflecting on my time in public and there was always something, whether it was a new section in the file, getting more client contact, getting invited to a big golf outing, running the jobs, managing the jobs, etc. I worry that leaving would leave me bored and not motivated to hit any sort of goal. I’m burnt out and worry that I’m making a rash decision lol. Thoughts?

How do you know when to up the dose on your meds? Currently on 40 mg Vyvanse. I usually get the peak euphoria feeling (super alert) about 1 hour after i take my meds and it lasts for a couple of hours. I work late but have noticed that i spend too much time staring at the screen and keep jumping between tasks. Would upping the dose help me concentrate on one task at a time? If not how do you manage this? What tips would you have to prevent the constant back and forth between tasks? TIA

Can we talk designations a minute? I'm at the agency level now and would like to move to a company underwriter. If I'm going to add some designations to my portfolio, which would be the best? I don't think jumping right into CPCU is the right way to go. I can earn my CIC and then pursue a CRM or CPRM. I don't think I want to do the CISR since that won't do much for me if/when I move to underwriter. Is there something else I should consider? Do designations matter at the company level?
