I wouldn’t say working for corporations is protecting the bad guy. There are plenty of investigations where you find individuals performing fraud and those cases may be referred to law enforcement. Also just because something wrong was done at a corporation doesn’t mean the shareholders or other employees should suffer. Most corporations when involved in these issues discipline the behavior and attempt to change. Not going to say all corporations are good but the world is a bit more gray than black and white.
Corporate plaintiff-side work does take place. Consumer cases, however, are usually limited to class actions and/or plaintiff firms backed by financing. Most consulting firms are too expensive in other scenarios, and the work goes to small/solo expert shops.
The “find the fraud” cases definitely happen. Need to know the right lawyers and law firms to get them. But I don’t know if any plaintiff-only litigation firms. I have worked on plaintiff and defense for over a decade. If the case is worth paying big-$ for experts, generally both sides hire them.
