Are there opportunities available to accredited investors that are better than what regular investors can access? Any good examples?

Sure...venture and PE to name a few.

Generally yes, most are illiquid but offer (potentially) higher returns

Real estate syndications are another. Typically these are higher risk investments where your money could definitely go poof.

Anyone knows how alimony works ? In terms of salary ? How much more than your partner do you need to make, to be granted alimony… I’m asking because I have seen cases where one person sacrifices themselves studying and working hard, while the other person is basically doing the bare min, and they can get alimony if they separate ? In some cases, for life.

Currently a staff 2 in audit at a big 4 firm (will be promoted to senior later this year), and I’m curious about switching into FDD. I’ve been seeing the referral plugs in here from all of the FDD folks, but it’s mainly been directed at those with more experience. Should I wait it out to make the switch or would I stand a chance with only 1.5 years of experience?

Additional Posts in FIRE Financial Independence Retire Early

I’m 23 and my assets include $49K cash, $15K in ROTH IRA (will max for CY) and $5K in 401K (20% contrib). Liab is $9K for car loan. No HSA option since I’ll be staying on parents insurance until 26 yrs old. What should I do with my cash on hand and any “extra” cash from my paychecks? Goal to buy either personal or investment property in 3-5 yrs to support my family. How do people reach hundreds of thousand by early 30s? The concept seems like a stretch to me.

Does anyone have one of those Infograph’s that show how to optimally allocate your savings? Something like 401k match > HSA > Roth etc (example, I’m not actually sure what the steps are).

I make 70k CAD and want to get started on my FIRE journey. Any tips? I don’t have a lot of savings and I have only just started. Pretty scared seeing the housing prices 😢

I'm switching jobs and considering whether I want to roll over my 401(k). I have about $220k in my plan. Considering rolling it into an existing Fidelity IRA with a balance of about $50k. Since October of 2020, I've paid about $880 in "plan administrative fees" to my 401(k) provider as well as the fund expense ratios.

It looks like Fidelity does not charge administrative fees on IRA accounts, so that seems to make it a no brainer, plus the investment options are much broader. What am I missing?

New to MBDR, topped off pretax 401k today and will get full company "match." Going forward I plan to do after tax contributions, does it make sense to change investment direction to money market to reduce the likelihood of nondeductible losses or taxable gains between dates of contribution and rollover?
