Are there top consulting firms that take on experienced consultants w/o an MBA? I refuse to get an MBA and not sure if that precludes me from joining a top consulting firm. Thoughts?

Sure. I’m an MD at Alix - I don’t have an MBA, I do a lot of hiring/recruiting work, and MBA only matters to me if a candidate doesn’t have much consulting/business experience.

I got into Deloitte without an undergrad degree. Depending on the type of role and YOE, it’s definitely possible.

like

Of course. I went to DePaul University for two years and didn’t do well academically, so I began working. After various retail and office staff jobs, I landed a job in the subscriber call center at Experian, worked in a few roles there, then was laid off after 9/11. Then I went to work for HSBC and led the implementation of a campaign management platform. After 6.5 years, I was ready for a change and went to Wunderman for 9 years where I had several roles and ended up managing a Marketing Operations Team. My manager at Wunderman left and went to Accenture, and encouraged me to try consulting.

I was going to be attending Adobe Summit back in 2017, and tried to RSVP to the Deloitte Digital party. It was limited to firm employees and clients, but the Global Head of the Adobe Practice emailed me and asked me if I was open to new opportunities. I was, and replied as such, and had my first interview in the Deliotte Digital booth at the conference. Then I went through in-person interviews, and was offered a role as an experienced hire.

I ended up exiting consulting in December to lead a Global CRM Team at a crypto startup.

Pretty much every firm takes in non-MBAs if you are in Europe. Particular DACH, Benelux, Nordics.

like

We do, all the time.

Yes

like

Bain does yes (easier if you have a different advanced degree)

What firms are you interested in aiming for? Lots of top firms take in non-MBAs, but typically there will be some other advanced degree.

Definitely possible, just not a common path. If you’re open to 1 year degrees, the 1 year Kellogg MBA is a recruiting source (but recognize it’s an MBA so may not be a fit)

Yes we do (I did it)

Yes but you’ll get knocked back on tenure likely

We definitely do.

I like the job/ people/ company I’m with, but I ended up taking an interview and getting an offer for 40% salary increase, similar role. I would truly only be leaving for the money. We’re not struggling but this would make a big difference over a few years. Yes I plan to ask current employer to see what they can do but they won’t be able to come close… is only for the money the wrong reason to leave?
