Look.
MBB is equivalent to BB in IB. They’re the GS, MS and JPM in Consulting. If you have an offer, go for it. Won’t go wrong.
There is quite a range among ‘tier 2’ firms. Some firms are quite competitive with MBB in some areas e.g. OW in Financials, LEK in Health/Life Sci. They don’t have the scale, but hire from a very similar talent pool. You can see them as EBs equivalent in Banking. Exit to top 5 MBA, PE etc. is possible via these firms. Your network is going to be smaller, but the bond could be stronger.
Then there are big tier 2s e.g. Parthenon, S&, S&O. These are equivalent to your lower tier BBs. Exit opportunities are less elite - you are much less likely to go to HBS or GSB, or even decent MM PEs. However if you plan to be in consulting forever, I do think these are pretty good firms to be in.
The rest - e.g. Big 4 management consulting is not even worth considering TBH.
None of them offer life changing WLB. So I’d advice to base your decision solely on interest/culture/exit opportunity. To get through the two years happily, you will need great colleagues whom you respect, interesting work, and an exit you look forward to having. Period.
We don’t really compete - we are the price check and win the strategy when the work isn’t mission critical and price matters.

Well first off you need to describe what you mean by tier 2, second off , I'll say it totally depends on your goals. What do you want out of a career, and what you'd like to do long term.
Let's add EYP to that mix!
Only you can answer that question for yourself.
At the junior levels, there is a significant payoff for T2 vs other firms.
Yes, this is for entry-level!
I don't think there's that much difference in the working hours between T2 and MBB. The prestige delta, however, is vast.
No brainer.
Don’t think OP is comparing MBB to T2 - I think the question is whether the consulting hours are still worth it at a T2 if you don’t get an MBB offer.
I would say it is worth it for most people. While the prestige is definitely lower than MBB, there are still a lot of great exits out there and good promotion pathway at T2s (I exited to LMM PE from LEK), and most who are familiar with consulting are still impressed by T2 experience. Plus it’s not like you’re working banking hours - WLB is not THAT bad.
Side note, if we were in an actual recession, and not some pre-midterm fear creation, questions like this just wouldn’t exist
Students wouldn’t know any better
We are paying 1st years TC $125-$130k with $110 base…pretty wild stuff
Bain 1 - My money is on this guy being non-target in a regional office who fought very hard to get in
I’ve worked at MBB and Tier 2 and the hours are 95% the same, atleast in NA / UK (if WLB comes down to hours for you)
Makes sense. I’m cautiously excited / interested as to the differences, as someone moving from a boutique to MBB very soon

Hours are the same but we make decent money
