How can i make a smooth transition from IT audit/advisory to business analyst?

I’m graduating with my masters in Earth Science this summer and was rejected from all the PhD programs I applied to. But I’ve found a postdoctoral position that is absolutely perfect for me. Should i still apply and write a strong cover letter? They’re hiring 5 post docs.
