Are you all doing anything different in a volatile market/potential downturn situation? Have all finances, investments figured out and in line from a retirement planning (39yo). I know the idea is to invest for long term even in a volatile market but are there other opportunities to take advantage of? E.g., move $ to secure FDIC approved vehicles, more exposure to global markets vs. US, etc. Looking at both ends of the spectrum - minimize risk, maximize earning potential

Explain how to do this correctly?

HYSA for short term liquidity. The rates are pretty sweet now. Other than that, selling real estate fast and DCAing index funds.

Similar age and financial situation. I had almost no bond exposure for the last ten years but have structured a ladder of T bills from 3-18 months accounting for 15% of my portfolio. Otherwise I’ve selectively added to real estate (IYR) and am keeping an eye out for distressed opportunities, but otherwise have been staying the course.

It’s not much compared to most of the posts I’ve seen in this bowl, but I finally hit $10k NW after I started working FT in August.
Everyone in this bowl has been a tremendous help in this process. I’ve never been good at saving, so this is a big milestone for me. Thank you again to everyone who gives out advice in the bowl, it is truly invaluable. Happy NYE! ❤️

I was planning to buy a home next year, but now I expect to renew my lease once it expires. If so, I wouldn't be buying a home for at least 2 years from now.

Guessing I should still leave the down payment in a HYSA (getting 3% right now)? Sucks to miss out on market returns, but I understand that conventional wisdom is not to invest money you'll need in the short term (within 3ish years). I'm definitely tempted to put a portion of that in VTI though...

Are folks buying homes with 6%+ mortgages? Or waiting till things cool down?

I’m a homeowner and we have a 3.25% on a $600k loan. Likely needing to upsize to a $1.5-2.0M home (VHCOL) because of kids, but balking at the idea of paying $6-8k/mo in interest charges alone.
