Are you allowed to have side hustles to supplement incomes as a full time federal employee?

You have to ask permission. But people do. It depends on the side gig. Obviously nothing that looks like a conflict of interest.

You would just have to report the extra income on your annual OG forms. The jobs you take on should not be a conflict of interest with your current job.

Yes, if you are a government employee you don’t need permission. Make sure you confirm there isn’t a conflict of interest between your side hustle and full time position. If you are a contractor there is normally an approval process for your company, each firms is different.

Yes. I'm at DoD and I suspect that we are intense about lawyers and processes in a way that other places may not be.

Depends on the agency. Some stipulate no outside employment.

Pay your taxes on time and use a CPA even if you have the skills, don't have any conflicts of interest, and don't let the two sides ever collide or compliment each other and you'll be fine. It's not illegal, so at best it's against policy, so don't narc on yourself.

Is it as hard to take PTO as people say? I have a couple of long weekend trips planned (covid willing) in May and June, which is right after I start, but have heard that it’s normal to have to cancel plans due to last minute deals coming in. Any tips??

I was recently offered a Zoom interview. The school had 10 interview slots for me to choose from. Three were one day this week and the rest are next week. I chose the first time slot available. Should I have waited until one of the last slots so I was fresher on their mind when choosing a candidate? I am just sitting here stressing out until I here something. Also, do interviewers still appreciate a hand written thank you for the interview?

Can anyone speak about the private company services at PwC? I am at another big 4 in risk and an opening became available in the assurance side of the group. I am tired of dealing with controls day in and day out and feel this is more my speed, especially the potential to work with high net worth individuals.

I recently went on disability leave and my boss Auto forwarded my emails to my coworker. I have plenty of emails that I need to access that have to do with my getting appointed with the carriers and policies that I have signed for groups.. How do I approach this ? I am upset that he didn’t even tell me. Didn’t clarify weather it’s a standard thing or not so as to ease my mind, etc. NOTHING! Jerk doesn’t care about my success

Tip passed on from my sister, for anyone looking at BAH:

Some of the jobs are open to anywhere in the US and have the Colorado salary range listed, so that can give you a general idea of what those types of positions might pay ahead of time. There's substantial variability, of course, but at least it gives you *something* to measure against.

Booz Allen Hamilton 🐠:

I've asked a few questions for my sister, passing another one along.

Is there defined promotion criteria from LA to SA? Or does it depend on admin chain, org, and/or politics?

She is looking at LA positions now as a potential comeback kid, and while she was at BAH 10+ years ago, she's forgotten the details, though they'd likely be severely outdated even if she remembered.

Which firm do you think has the most staff aug projects?

I have 4.5 YOE (1.5 in consulting) with a TS/SCI. Also have a terminal degree. Mostly a generalist consultant, but have done some project work in the supply chain realm. Looking to make a jump. Currently at $95k, but looking to make a jump to utilize my clearance. Any leads from fellow 🐠? Interested in BAH and D, but willing to look elsewhere.

What salary range should I be expecting from Guidehouse for a consultant position (1 YOE)?

Got offered a position with Deloitte GPS as an SC for $112k which is $13k less than I make at BAH as an Associate Data Scientist. Is it normal for Deloitte salaries to be so low for Federal?
