Hey ladies, has anyone quit their current role without having the next role lined up? I’m already exploring external roles and interviewing but a month off or longer between roles might be nice to combat an impending burnout. I have decent savings and I’m not financially worried. I’m wondering if there are any repercussions to exiting and re-entering the workforce within a few month window especially since I’ve hustled to make it to a Director / people leader level.

Received a job offer from both Amazon and Microsoft in US as account manager for their advertising business. Very similar compensation. Amazon ads seem more interesting and exciting and growing aggressively, whereas for Microsoft will be working mainly with Bing ads. However, Microsoft seems to have better work life balance and culture. Any insights on anyone working in these roles?
Does anyone have any nightmare stories about switching over to unlimited pto? I’ve only seen 1-2 cases of it not working out for people on here. Wondering if I’m overthinking skipping companies that offer it.

Help! I’m working on building some resources for teachers who want to leave teaching. If you’re considering leaving education, what 2 resources would you like to/need to have?
Why do I let it bother me so much that my classroom paraprofessionals are on their phones or computers so much during instructional time? I know they wouldn’t be doing much else, but keeping a closer eye on their caseload students would be very helpful. Plus, the students nor I are allowed to be on our phones. I don’t want to micromanage, but I am always so irked and frustrated about it during class! Is it just me? Do I need to relax?

I've been off work since last Thursday! My Dr. suspected COVID & sent me for a test, whilst I waited for the results, I felt worse. I was sent to the ER; ER doctor said that I had COVID & asked me to call the urgent care to see if my results were back. They were negative. They told me that the tests are 60% false negatives. So, they treated me as if I had COVID and put me on steroids and antibiotics and told me to rest for the week. I'm feeling better now, but scared to go back on Monday.
To the hard working teachers out there…
Does anyone use a science curriculum that they actually like? One with authentic learning, covers the necessary material, includes literacy components, where students are engaged, & there are scaffolding options built in? Bonus if it has a vertical alignment layout! I’ve asked every teacher I know across the US & this seems to be something that doesn’t exist. No one seems satisfied with their science curriculum.
Question 2: what do you look for in a quality science curriculum? Non-negotiables?
How often do custodians clean your classroom?
My super interintendant is not accurately portraying the staffing struggle in my district. We are the largest & lowest paid in the state. His news interview stated covid and technology are the two reasons for it. Before the pandemic my department was always short staffed. The raises are locked in and pennies a year ($14 to start) Should I let the news station know his info is false? We've been asking for more pay for years through pur union rep. Students are being hired as custodians as well
What are your favorite education publications (print or online) to read? Examples include: The Educator’s Room, The Edvocate, Edutopia, etc.
Interesting if not entirely surprising article detailing a Washington Post study on school openings.
From the article:
The two main factors that determined whether a school district opened in-person were the level of support in the district for Donald Trump in 2016 and the strength of teachers’ unions. A third factor, with a much smaller impact, was the amount of competition a school district faces from private schools, in particular Catholic schools.
I’m going to start teaching reading in high school. What does reading homework consist of, and how is it graded?
Can you guys help me figure out how to design some lessons where the students are (fairly) engaged but I don’t feel the need to give a grade. We’ve got A LOT of grades already, so I was hoping to design some lessons that I don’t need to grade, yet feel the students will still participate, be engaged, and even have some fun. I’m a CTE teacher if that helps. Thank you!
