Yes, I expect it from my team. I also make them decide on where/when. Restaurant choice, table manners and timing helps me decide on their performance review. I recommended the associate for a PIP for using the wrong fork. No place in PA for the uncivilized.
As someone on the bosses end, we generally do it because we want you to know you are valued. If you have another preference, I know I would prefer to know that and let you do your thing. It should be about you when you are already traveling and away for the firm, so I wouldn’t feel obligated at all.
Communication is key.
I'd say having a dinner or two together a week is reasonable. It provides for a good networking opportunity and 2 times a week still allows you to have some alone time. I actually like being able to l be out of town and get to know the team because when I'm at home, I feel obligated to run errands, cook, clean, etc so it's nice to have time to socialize.
I always leave the invite open, but I'm going to go to a place I want regardless
I dread those. Good luck. Rather you than me.
BDO 1 has it right. I'll invite you to be inclusive etc., but I'm just as happy going back to my room and vegging
I used to feel obligated. Go to dinner one day and do your own thing the other days. I like to workout and eat healthy so lots of time I take my own food so I don’t want to eat dinner with others. Also, I’ve worked with plenty of ppl who want to do their own thing.
There’s no better place to get to know your boss and (s)he to know you than during business trips. It will help you in your career because pple will get to know you! How hard can this be? You can do your gym/bs the other 4 days of the week.
Just the two of you?
I typically will do one dinner. The rest I'll just call it early and gym/room service.
Yes it’s just me +1. And they are not terribly long trips. But I also like to work out, eat healthy and just be left alone LOL.
I guess it seems there isn’t some sort of social rule that I’m obligated to go to dinner, but it may be good to go once.
Thanks everyone
