Homework... it’s my worst nightmare in the classroom. I have to give it but have flexibility in creating my own policy. Please share what you give, how you collect, and/or grade!! THANKS!

My daughter just attended a new teacher workshop at a ROE. A Superintendent presented (not hers) and told this room full of new teachers, “Real teachers get to school at 7:00 am and go home at 8:00 pm.” Really?? As a veteran teacher of 26 years, I was appalled! Makes sense why new teachers are leaving the classroom in their first five years and why we have a teacher shortage in Illinois with those type of expectations.

Dropping this in a few bowls, sorry if you see it twice. I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school. Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return. Thanks to everyone for your commitment and time, enjoy your summer!

Random thought. Many teachers live and die by their whiteboards, and that means dry erase markers are essential classroom supplies. Far more expensive than the chalk I started with, but I digress. I feel like the only person on the planet who prefers bullet-tip markers to the standard chisel tip. I am particularly fond of the Pilot refillables, despite their limited colors. Anyone else care to share their marker thoughts on markers and the merits of chisel tips vs bullet?

What type of schedule do you have in your school library? In your opinion should the elementary library be on a fixed, flex or combination schedule? This question is for classroom and library teachers

Hey! I’m a self-contained teacher for grades K-2. This is my first year at the school I’m currently in, and apparently in the yearbook every year they have a class page solely for the handful of students in my classroom. They do this instead of putting my students in the yearbook page of the class they participate in for inclusion services. I feel like this is extremely wrong and violates some privacy laws. Do y’all have suggestions on how to bring this up with admin and the yearbook director?

Moving from elementary to middle school. Looking for advice on anything from classroom decoration to classroom management & behaviors. Any help appreciated!

I have a suggestion/ things you want me to know box in my classroom. Today one of my students put a note in the box saying her mom lost her job and she feels bad because she is the poorest student in the class. She said the other kids have cool things and she is poor. I want to help her but don’t want to offend her parents. Any suggestions?

Does anyone use VR in their classroom? I just discovered CoSpaces Edu, and I'm looking for other ideas.

I’ve been working with emotionally impaired middle school students in a center based program for 25 years. I even did my special ed student teaching there Jan- April 1995, then started full time in September. 16 years in the classroom and the past 9 as Teacher Consultant. I’m praying I can retire in 5 (my dream) - 10 years. What about everyone else? How’s you start, where are you at, when is the end for you?

Changed my company but it didn't update!

What are some good companies to work for in Dallas?

As someone who grew up with parents who provided for us on $35k a year, I’m so sick of people who post things like “I’m 23 with $200k in savings and a $150k job - is that good?? 🥺🥺” y’all are annoying

How is everyone being productive or learning something new during isolation? I feel like I should be doing something more than chores and being a couch potato with all this extra time on my hands.

My SM told me that I have to be conscious of racial diversity when selecting a candidate for my project team. It seemed like they were very very careful with their language. Does this mean I have to pick a URM? My project is already majority URM, so wouldn’t adding another URM make it less racially diverse?
