Are you still afraid of catching COVID?

I’m certainly taking precautions against it, mainly because it could disrupt my life, but also because it can still be dangerous.

I’ve had 3 shots and still got COVID in March. It mostly felt like a cold but still lasted 10 days and kept me from celebrating a few milestones I would have liked to. I’d probably fight it off quicker if I had it again but you never know.

At this point I am “living my life” but that does look different from before. I WFH a lot more often and for more reasons, and I’ll wear masks in planes and stores when it’s practical regardless of mandates. But none of that stops me from doing stuff that I want to. The only thing doing that is when I’m actually sick.

For me it is about not being complacent with the situation.

I personally do not want to catch it so it is a matter of limiting the risks. Avoid crowded places and mask up indoors if I am shopping for groceries etc. Maintain proper hygiene and sanitize my hands. I’ll hang out with some close friends at a cottage/house bbq or patio but I won’t be hitting up a crowded bar etc.

Remember that vaccination is literally the last layer of defence in the event you do come in contact the virus (to lessen the severity) but in reality you can limit the risk of even coming in contact with the virus by doing those small things.

I was never afraid of COVID. I am afraid of loosing my freedoms because of COVID.

Late to the game here but unsure what everyone in this thread disagrees about? The principle of everyone having the right to decide what happens to their body is true for covid issues and roe v wade. It’s simple and it’s the same thing - everyone decides what’s best for their body and their life.

No, because I don’t live in fear. I got the vaccinations like I was told to so now it’s time to live life.

If you are still afraid of COVID, why aren’t you also afraid of cancer? Heart disease? Fatal car accident?

Time to move on, people.

Yes. Had it in December and it sucked, especially brain fog which lasted weeks.

Got it right now for the third time. Nearly a week in, this time it’s hit pretty hard. So tired all the time.

Afraid, no.

Concerned, yes.

Never was afraid to begin with. Rarely wore a mask and never vaccinated. Worked in retail for most of the pandemic dealing with customers who didn’t mask and didn’t vax. Went to South Africa with stops in Detroit and Amsterdam on the way there, only masking when told to. While there rarely wore a mask except when forced to. Stopped in Paris and Atlanta airports on the way back masking as little as possible. Also went to Florida in December of 2021 and masked as little as possible. Essentially lived/living normal life only masking when absolutely forced to do so.

likehelpful

I only mask when forced to at a doctors office. #FloridaLife

You may not have gotten sick but by moving around and not masking you are contributing to the spread to make others sick.

likefunnysmart

For any virus or similar infections there are periods when you are contagious and when you are not. When you are contagious you can spread the infection; although, you may not be exhibiting any symptoms. So, you can be "sick" and spreading the infection even you think you are not sick.

Yes, in the sense that I would strongly prefer not to get it

likesmart

Nope, never was

Have COVID right now. It’s not bad but I still would want to avoid it

Not bad for me might mean bad for someone else

I take that back. It’s pretty awful

It clearly shows in this thread who hasn’t lost a loved one because of Covid.

likesmartfunny

Sigh....

Currently going through my first bout. Would not recommend.

I won’t avoid activities going forward (since I don’t think covid is going anywhere), but I do think I’ll be more cautious.

Every day we don’t get Covid is another day of the scientific community getting closer to finding out how to treat its worst effects

I have two masks by my bed at the ready. A weighted blanket and a Glock by the bed stand. A hazmat suit hanging by my door. COVID won the battle but not the war! 😃

Covid should be afraid of catching these hands

funnylike

Nope. COVID was over for me by May 2020. Unless you are on immunosuppressants and/or are over 70 it was 99.9% survivable. Now with access antibody infusions it even survivable for those on immunosuppressants.

like

Survivable, yes. But not without lasting damage in a lot of cases.

If I catch covid from some idiot I don't even want to hang out with, I will be livid.

like

Exactly. Hence my reluctance to be in the office even Thursdays when there is beer or food. Even if you and I do our best to mutually not be idiots, someone else encoutered on the way - totally unrelated could poison the well.

My goal is to drop the final 15 pounds from WFH before I am back onsite for clients... getting covid would put a damper on that plan.

like

why are y’all afraid if the vax works?

likefunny

That’s propaganda. I know only one unvacced person who’s been infected since December and they said Omigodcron was a nothing burger.

like

Yes because a third of the country aren’t vaccinated (selfish) and people don’t give a sh*t about spreading it. Afraid of losing your rights? Come on.

likefunny

Attorney 3 find another thread stop posting so much BS here. Wow. Vaccine reduces symptoms. Symptoms reduce spread. Vaccine reduces spread of Covid.

How are you trying to argue with science. Where did you get your law degree? Phoenix online? Lol

likefunny

Not anymore, keep up with the shots.

likefunnyhelpful

D10, it reduces symptoms of Covid. Symptoms like coughing etc spreads the virus. Less symptoms = less transmission of the virus.

yes, and have never caught it. me or my household. im most concerned about the way covid suppresses the immune system, and after repeated infections it is showing to act as an autoimmune disease. folks may not be “scared” anymore but that doesn’t stop covid from being a major disabling event, and a vascular disease.

likesmartfunny

dont give up hope. a 39 year old friend had a heart attack earlier this year. previous covid infection. her dad is a cardiologist! she was in a coma for a week but made it. back at work now and on the mend. there is hope!

For data science roles, senior (L6) at AWS or post MBA level (specialist track, so same pay as generalists) at MBB? Comp is 20% higher at AWS just to start.

But maybe looks like MBB has better upside - solid path to promotion to manager level with solid comp increase. But worse WLB and it's unclear to me whether MBB data scientist on the resume is up to par with big tech data scientist on the resume.

Coming from big 4 so I am considering brand so I can do better with future resume screens.
