If a person had their innoculation then they are protected, right? So, what concern is it if anyone around them has also had it? By definition a vaccine is suspension of weakened, killed, or fragmented microorganisms or toxins or of antibodies or lymphocytes that is administered primarily to prevent disease. In the case of C19 this process has been complete through a synthesized virus vs. actual. Since the current innoculation does not prevent C19 by developing immunity, it merely helps the body to fight the infection, it is not a vaccine. In other words, even after innoculation a person can still be infected, can still be infectious, but their body "should" be more or capable of fending off the attack. All things considered this "vaccine" only benefits the recipient should they become infected. Thus, the inoculation status of the people around said person is irrelevant. The only people who should be concerned are those who have not been inoculated.

NMMS2 - Your definition of “vaccine” may be too narrowly drawn. Most definitions don’t look at “vaccine” via its composition or mechanics but rather what it prompts the immune system to do. Below are some examples. CDC - “A product that stimulates a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a specific disease, protecting the person from that disease.” 26 US Code 4132 (legal definition used in courts) - “Any substance designed to be administered to a human being for the prevention of 1 or more diseases.” World Health Organization - “Vaccines train your immune system to create antibodies, just as it does when it’s exposed to a disease.” FDA - “[Some] vaccines contain weakened versions of a bacteria or virus, other vaccines contain only part of the bacteria or virus. Some vaccines contain only the genetic material for a specific protein and direct the body to produce a small amount of that protein. The body’s immune system reacts defensively once it detects this protein.” Oxford Languages - “a substance used to stimulate the production of antibodies and provide immunity against one or several diseases, prepared from the causative agent of a disease, its products, or a synthetic substitute, treated to act as an antigen without inducing the disease.” Plus the Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a traditional vector vaccine, so it fits the narrowly drawn definition, too.

IES 3 I think you need to really check facts before you post them… here is what I found from CDC Vaers, https://wonder.cdc.gov/vaers.html which makes me think more about the validity of what you are saying. (Not arguing, just finding facts) VAERS accepts reports of adverse events and reactions that occur following vaccination. Healthcare providers, vaccine manufacturers, and the public can submit reports to VAERS. While very important in monitoring vaccine safety, VAERS reports alone cannot be used to determine if a vaccine caused or contributed to an adverse event or illness. The reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable. Most reports to VAERS are voluntary, which means they are subject to biases. This creates specific limitations on how the data can be used scientifically. Data from VAERS reports should always be interpreted with these limitations in mind. The strengths of VAERS are that it is national in scope and can quickly provide an early warning of a safety problem with a vaccine. As part of CDC and FDA's multi-system approach to post-licensure vaccine safety monitoring, VAERS is designed to rapidly detect unusual or unexpected patterns of adverse events, also known as "safety signals." If a safety signal is found in VAERS, further studies can be done in safety systems such as the CDC's Vaccine Safety Datalink (VSD) or the Clinical Immunization Safety Assessment (CISA) project. These systems do not have the same limitations as VAERS, and can better assess health risks and possible connections between adverse events and a vaccine. Key considerations and limitations of VAERS data: Vaccine providers are encouraged to report any clinically significant health problem following vaccination to VAERS, whether or not they believe the vaccine was the cause. Reports may include incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental and unverified information. The number of reports alone cannot be interpreted or used to reach conclusions about the existence, severity, frequency, or rates of problems associated with vaccines. VAERS data are limited to vaccine adverse event reports received between 1990 and the most recent date for which data are available. VAERS data do not represent all known safety information for a vaccine and should be interpreted in the context of other scientific information. VAERS data available to the public include only the initial report data to VAERS. Updated data which contains data from medical records and corrections reported during follow up are used by the government for analysis. However, for numerous reasons including data consistency, these amended data are not available to the

I am not vaccinated. I prefer to wait until the vaccine is fully approved before I decide if I will get it or not. I feel that we need to respect the decisions of families not to be vaccinated. I will not be asking students if they are or not, they should not be pressured or shamed for their personal decisions.

Vaccine requirements for entry into schools have been around since the early 1940s in my state. Vaccinations are there to protect EVERYONE, not just the few who want protection!

likesmart

No not vaccinated nor is my family. Right now I have many hesitations. Not judging anyone either way.

like

I got vaccinated even though I had very strong reservations about and still but I am over 40 and already done having more children but I don’t support the idea of the younger age group to be vaccinated nobody knows the future side effects of it!

like

No vaccine for me or my family. My students are too young. Not interested in an experimental vaccine but will consider if FDA approved. No judgement of different opinions though….I respect personal choice.

like

I went back and forth, since it is not FDA approved. I can definitely respect anyone that is hesitant. My mother sends me daily videos of why I shouldn't get it. I ended up getting my first dose yesterday, but did it because of this new variant. It took a lot to bite the bullet and walk into the clinic.

like

I am not, waiting for a full FDA approval to decide. I know that many of my students had it before the lockdown in January and February. Been around sick kids for 23 years not really worried if they are vaccinated or not.

likeuplifting

When is the 'science' of basic biology going to get front page??? Those of us who have tested positive are likely more 'protected' than those who are vaccinated. We shouldn't be pressured to get vaccinated, and no employer has the legal right to ask if you have taken the trial vaccination. I also teach the littlest of the littles, so absolutley no vaccines for the kids at my grade school.

likesmart

CES possible both ways haha Last I read was the FDA was pushing for a decision on the approval application for Pfizer by January 2022. Moderna does not yet have an application for approval in place.

I am not vaccinated but had COVID in December and feel my natural antibodies are keeping me just as safe if not safer than the vaccine. I do not like that most don’t acknowledge the research that says we are protected as much if not more than those vaccinated.

like

Thanks! That's good to know.

like

I don't mean to throw a wrench in the works, but I see so much debate about the vaccine, is anyone concerned about the mass amount of unvaccinated people coming across the southern border? I understand there are also a lot that are testing positive and I'm not hearing outrage in any posts about that. I'd like to hear thoughts on that, especially from those in the border states.

likefunnysmart

Both illegal immigrants and unvaccinated Southerners should be kept behind their respective borders until they can provide legitimate evidence of full vaccination.

Hubby and I are vaccinated. I teach high school, so they all have the opportunity. However, given the number of families in my district who think this is all a hoax or 'just a flu' I question the percentage of vaccinated students this fall.

IMS, are you doing your actual research in a lab or in a hospital? Or are you working for your community health services?

like

No. Not even if the FDA approves it. Much love and health to everyone, here's to a good school year for all!

likesmart

Why?

I am not, and although I am of "high risk," I am not even considering it until there is more time for research and FDA approval. My specialists also could not in good faith recommend me getting vaccinated as my husband and I are looking to start a family this year. There is very little info about pregnant mothers and the vaccines, but a high number of miscarriages reported after vaccination here in my region. Most of the staff I work with are vaccinated, but most children in our building are not old enough. 2 of my students (7yr olds) got Covid this last year...one of them got it twice. They both got it from outside of school and did not get anyone else sick. I will say, I would greatly appreciate not getting the awful stomach bug that went through my community again this year. And less of the lice!!

Yes, and my own children 14 and 18 are vaccinated. I'm not sure about the vaccine rates of my students

CES 3, my 15-year old got the Pfizer. His arm was sore and he felt bad the day after both doses, but it lasted less than 24 hours both times. He was very relieved to be able to get it before we went on vacation!

I am because I have stage 4 breast cancer and need any protection I can get. My hubby is too as are our 13 yo and 15 yo for my protection.

Thanks, GHS1 and VES1. With Stage 4 or metastatic breast cancer, I will most likely be on treatment of some sort for the rest of my life. However, at this moment, the treatment is working and no cancer is present, so we stay the course and pray it works long enough for research to find a cure or more treatments to keep it at bay.

Once the vaccine has full FDA approval I will be! Until then, the terms “rush” “emergency” and “vaccine” don’t belong in the same sentence.

likesmartuplifting

I tend to think the words "emergency" and "vaccine" do belong in the same sentence when you're fighting a pandemic which is, well, an emergency. But, to each their own, I guess. It is important to note that the vaccines given an EUA went through many stages of trials involving tens of thousands of people. It's not like they took it from the lab and threw it out into the general population.

The CDC Vaers website states over 10,000 people have died after injection. Children included. Just the other day charges were filed against the federal government because someone came forward from the NHS and said over 45,000 people died after injection. I know of 3 people who passed within days of being injected. This is information you will not find on the news because MSM has been propagandized and is owned by the same people who want to inject you with a substance that no one really knows what it is doing to the cells in your body. There are so many lies and deceptions here. If you are offended by facts, I do not care. Go to the cdc vaers website and figure out how to check the vaers info and read all the accounts of people who died. Maybe that will wake you up.

MHS 5 Reading health food labels and getting a vaccine that could prevent death or hospitalization are not even comparable! If all those out here are as educated as you are saying then why don’t you know any facts about it? We are all going to die someday… I’d like to stay around a little longer but I’m not going to worry about what “could” happen because I have found that wording about the “coulda” may never come to pass. Sometime you have to do what is in the best interest of ALL.!!! I understand being nervous but our healthcare workers received the vaccine in December… SFSG! And the people in the trial are still being followed. What do you think will or could happen in the long run if Covid doesn’t get you first???!!!

like

We need to start imposing mandates. I would be very happy if people got fined or got consequences at work for not vaccinating.

Michigan EL 2. Something won’t happen to you with the shot. DELTA on the other hand gives you a higher chance of going to the hospital.

I am but I think everyone needs to decide if they want it or not and it is a very personal decision.

like

Why hasn't the FDA/CDC yet approved this vaccine? Is it because that would mean that they would be liable for any injuries/deaths as previous vaccine manufacturers were? It is very convenient not to have any liability for any adverse affects. In the past, vaccines were quickly recalled when there were less than 50 adverse affects. VAERS shows we are well into the thousands.

NYMS1- I'll try one more time, against my better judgment. The fact that the vaccines haven't been given full approval HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CONFIDENCE IN THE VACCINE. There is a PROCESS they have to go through, which takes time, because they have to present DATA collected from real-world use of the vaccine. Once all of that is done, they will be receiving full FDA approval, probably within a matter of weeks. By then, I'm sure you will have moved on to the next ridiculous excuse you found on YouTube for avoiding the vaccine, so it probably won't matter. At least I'll sleep better knowing I got this out there.

I am not vaccinated per advice from my gastro Dr. I have an immunity to the flu as well. I know I’m blessed but due doctors advice I will not be vaccinated.

like

I'm new to Fishbowl and am having trouble navigating back to my original conversation thread, so I'll continue posting here. One reason (amongst others) why I am not vaccinated is because of the lack of available trial data. I respect everyone's choice and even some of my family members have been vaccinated, but I can't help but wonder: Why would the CDC push so hard to get everyone vaccinated when Pfizer and Moderna both stated in their official report to the FDA that there is limited to NO evidence for the efficacy/safety regarding the following categories? * Anyone younger than age 18 or older than age 55 * Pregnant or lactating mothers * Auto-immune conditions * Immunocompromised individuals * No data on transmission of covid * No data on preventing mortality from covid * No data on duration of protection from covid These are the reports that Pfizer and Moderna submitted to the FDA when they were attempting to get their vaccines approved for emergency use: Pfizer’s own report showing many gaps in the data (Section 8.2 starting on page 46): https://www.fda.gov/media/144245/download Moderna’s own report showing many gaps in the data (Section 8.2 starting on page 48): https://www.fda.gov/media/144434/download
