Me, definitely not.
The kids? I've been pleasantly surprised so far.
That's awesome, most of my kids are doing well. We are just dealing with a lot of sicknesses right now in the classrooms.
I've reached my limit a long time ago and I'm sure I can say the same about the kids. I'm most looking forward to not having to face the little rascals and to just focus on my own troublemakers hahaha!
LOL, same here! I'll be saying I can't wait to go back to school to get away from my kids after about a day or 2 bc they will be driving me crazy! I'm bored will come up about a zillion times!
I’ve decided that I cannot care more than my students and their parents. You want to sleep? Cool. Fail? Great. I know it’s the thing to blame the pandemic, but student behavior and empathy were on a downward spiral long before.
100% agree with you. I am so tired of everyone blaming the pandemic on everything. Also, stop blaming social media for everything as well. Teach the kids what is right and what is wrong. If your kids are responding negatively to social media take it away from them. No, it's not the pandemic. It's the kids, the parents, except the responsibility and the consequences to your actions.
Kids have been checked out this whole quarter. Too much phones and not enough work. The bar is set so low and they still are tripping over it.
Im starting to agree with this that we are not pushing the kids hard enough. Phones are a big distraction and now they have their Chromebooks which they sneak onto different sites when they are supposed to be doing their work.
I am SOOOO checked out - just over this year already!
I'm seeing right now a ton of kids are out sick...Flu, COVID, RSV, strep throat, stomach bug... So far i have been lucky fingers crossed
They were checked out by September 3rd.
I just call 'em like I see 'em.
I am checked out for sure. I am soooo tired of trying to drag students along. I have to always be “up” to keep them somewhat engaged, they get up out of their seats with two minutes to go or more like they own the joint, and it’s just been soooo difficult to keep up with all the work. I feel like I’m playing Wack-a-Mole and I’m losing badly…
I love your analogy!
I’m personally not checked out. I’m holding the kids accountable (I may be the only one around doing it 🤷♀️), they’re studying and reviewing now for the Final Exam at the end of the semester. We even talked about Dead Week, just like in college. I’m on fire 🔥 😃
I'm not saying you are wrong, but having one former student who is at Harvard, and a coworker's son at Yale, I can assure you grades are still being assigned, at least in their courses. I feel the podcast is mistaken on this front. I also cannot find any information on colleges en masse not assigning grades; though, there may be some. If you have something that shows that is true, or remember the podcast, I'd be interested to read/watch. I'd like to see what rationale they are using.
I know two years ago many schools (even many Ivy League schools) dropped ACT/SAT requirements, but most have started phasing them back in as a measurement tool. Others who have not yet reinstated them as a measuring tool have largely claimed they will return to using them in 2-4 years. For instance, Harvard will be waiving them for 4 years, one being last year. They are waiving them up until the class of 2028. Now this could be permanent, but as of now, most have plans to bring back such requirements. While I disagree, I somewhat see the rationale for this.
Still, if you remember the podcast or where to find information on colleges forgoing grades, it would be interesting. I don't see any rationale that could lead me to believe that is a proper way to go.
They are hanging on but we have three full days next week. That will be rough.
We go to the 23rd as well. It's a 1/2 day though! Then we go back on the 2nd, short break this year.
I’m so checked out I took the day off and went skiing
Good for you taking time for some self-care. Love it!!!
So many of the students never checked in, except to get into fights and cuss out teachers.
I agree. Parents need to parent POSITIVELY!
I am so checked out too. My mind is already on a holiday break. Can we skip to the good part now please.
I love Christmas, it is my favorite holiday. The lights, the giving of gifts, the smell of pine, the Christmas music.
I'm so ready for the break. My brain was already on vacation mode three weeks ago. Lol
LOL, we had snow yesterday and did a virtual day. Half the kids were so not paying attention. I hate virtual days honestly such a waste.
I'm getting ready now to be on break, the kids are starting to get a little antsy now. They are ready.
We have finals coming up on Friday and they come in for two days next week. I'm sure after finals they'll be checked out.
Our school hasnt brought back finals yet since COVID. I just have them do one big project to count as like a final exam.
I've been checked out for about two weeks now. The students just seem like hopped on the smell of new electronics coming their way. They're all on their best behavior.
Oh wow, my kids are antsy now and are not on their best behavior. They are losing focus.
I have been checked out since the beginining of the year....I'm not going to lie to you LOL.
