No, but everyone does it, we made extensive use of video conferencing before COVID so everyone is used to it.
It's a good thing. Voice only sucks.
For meetings during core working hours, I ask my team to turn on their camera, just makes it a lot more personal and ensure we connect to each other as humans
The dissonance is crazy. Some of us just believe there's a stronger limit to the type of concessions you make for a job. I don't worship my workplace because it feeds me. Boundaries are great. If it's not a big deal for you--cool. But mandating that other people adhere is like believing everyone should view the world you do or only has the challenges you do and that's just so naive and privileged.

It’s never been directly asked of me nor do I make it the expectation of my own team. However, I do have some partners who ALWAYS have their camera on so consequently it makes me feel pressured to turn on mine. But, I don’t. Lol.
No thank God. We have a daily standups and have had no issues doing voice only since March. Everyone gives their updates, asks their questions, gets their guidance and moves on with their day. Honestly it’s distracting to have camera on. With voice only we can focus on the matter at hand. I’m glad my team doesn’t require this.
Imagine one person never showing up to team meetings in person pre-Covid, and always dialing in. How would that come across? Work is work, and during working hours you have to present yourself as professional. If there is a reason why that is not possible, that is fine, but camera on should be the default.

My employer provided a work location which obviated the need to provide for a home office. Then suddenly they demanded we work from home. They didn’t though do anything until 8/21 (5 months almost to the day from when they told us to stay home) to assist us with at home supplies. They smugly told us we could repurpose existing benefits to equip our offices (read: use money you already deserve for another purpose). They pay for internet access in the three or four states that force them to, but FU to the rest of us.

No one here gets on camera almost ever. Random 3-10k employee consulting firm most of you wouldn’t have heard of.
I live in a 1BR with my wife and my set up is in my BR right beside the restroom. My BR has tons of pictures on the walls and it exposes a lot of my personal life. Disconnecting my laptop from my setup is a freaking pain in the ass - I am eventually forced to turn it on since everyone else has their video on.
U don’t have that on google hangouts
I’ve switched projects during WFH. I went from a “camera always on” to a “no camera” team. With in a week of being on my new project, I was told, “we don’t do that here.” I actually prefer being on camera.

Lol. I said that once to my team. “We don’t do that here”
