As a Black person, I feel like I all of a sudden have a lot of interest in my views from BofA, but it's usually on Diversity issues. How have you fought this pigeon-holing throughout your career?

As a Black women Diversity is part of who I am, however it doesn't mean that there are not other aspects that I am speak on. As an example, if you are asked to speak about diversity start bringing revenue/market development into the conversation by highlighting that engaging with diverse professionals can changing your lens can lead to new opportunities and client wins. Through this exercise you are teaching them how to think differently about diversity and YOU. You are a thought leader that happens to be diverse and all aspects of your contributions should be considered.

I hope this helps, please let me know if you have any other questions.

We are in a time where people are seeking racial understanding through conversation. Your voice at Bof A can help move the conversation forward and make the work environment better. That said, you are still in charge of your career, and determining your path. Through these conversations, I suspect you will learn a lot from who responds to you, and how they respond. Working in the best culture, with a good manager will be a key determinant in your career progression.
