As a black woman, I have never been told to be more assertive in the workplace. 👀

I haven’t been told to be more assertive but I have been told to brag about my accomplishments more. Which is very foreign to me bc the proof is in the results in my opinion.

like

Right! It sucks that those people who go on and on get all the visibility and promotions.

I’ve definitely been told I need to speak up more, though not necessarily assertive.

Funny enough, one client told me to keep being assertive (I was a consultant at the time) because that’s why they hire us.

I have. Although it’s UK focused, I like how this article lays our struggles to be more “stereotypical“ in the workplace.

Great read! This line resonated with me most - "being in the workplace brought out more introverted tendencies in them" - because I'm an introvert at work and an extrovert elsewhere.

I have and I’m in the US

I have. US also

I definitely don't have this problem. LOL

I'm happy I'm not the only one. I think it was brought because I'm shifting into a project leader versus being a team member. Do you all have any tips, lessons, etc.?
