As a female who looks young, I've felt so many disadvantages at the office. Especially at client site, I feel like they don't take me seriously.

It's fine. If older they say too old. Ageist society. Work youth to your advantage.

Then make them take you seriously by impressing on them your expertise, experience and attitude. And if that requires change of appearance because that's how shallow they are, fine-tune it.

Whenever a client makes a comment about how young i am to be doing what I'm doing, i always respond with "I'm much older than i look, my acne keeps me young." They immediately assume I'm in my 30's, hilarious, and really good looking for my age. I've been using that line since i was 22 lol

like

It's definitely because you're a girl. No other reason.

Agree with P1, Competence trumps age and looks. Remain focused on exceptional delivery and keep challenging yourself.

My client once said I look like I'm in high school 😂😂😂

I don't know how many times I have been asked whether I was the summer student. However, I have found over the years that it didn't matter how "young" I looked - it is more about how professional, confident , and capable you are when it comes to delivering. Once they know you as a professional and trusted advisor, your young looks become a bonus!

I've thought about lying when people ask, but my LinkedIn profile makes it pretty apparent how old I am. Aren't some of you guys afraid of getting caught lying or the awkwardness of clearly dodging the age question?

If young, don't lie. If old, hide your years on LinkedIn.

I've always had a similar issue. Agree with P1 and everyone else: be ultra professional in appearance and demeanor. I stick to suits or blazers no matter how casual the environment.

You need to be both young and hot to be taken seriously

Use your looks to your advantage

Every stage of life comes with its unique pros and cons. You can either approach this with stress and worry (albeit about different things at each stage) or enjoy the journey and make the most of what each stage offers.

Hi all, 3 years into MBB and job was taking the toll on me, and we were unable to get pregnant. I forced myself into an internal role to get some breathing space and therapy, and we ended up getting pregnant. But a few months in, I moved back to client facing and it has been absolutely difficult to spend time at home and keep my wife happy. She is expecting some quality time every day for a few hours, and I am just unable to do that. Its probably a combination of the job and also how I

I’m relatively new to freelancing, but was lucky enough to sell in a video shoot and travel to be there on set. How do you handle billing hours and expenses in this scenario as a freelancer? Obviously I’ll bill any hours working on the project, time on set and expense my travel. Do you bill extra for the billable hours you lost during travel?

Hi All, Recently got the opportunity to "grow our ESG/CSR" practice at a small regional consulting firm, due to my recent grad certification in sustainable strategy. Wondering where I should focus us as a services industry for big impact - we have a large product innovation, engineering area, and know in the past we've had a lot of lip service to clients and only recorded ESG for their compliance. Hoping to make a big difference and include CSR/Sust audits for our client projects! Any tips?

Anyone else tire of the “plant mom” and “dog dad” me too conversation? It seems to be more frequent. For example, company says, “Parents, please share pictures of working from home with your kids during Covid” for a diversity and inclusion project. Undoubtedly someone responds, “what about my plant babies? 🤣”. I don’t want sympathy but I find it childish. Just give us the courtesy of understanding that plants and pets are not the same. Stop “me too’ing”

I need advice on when I am, and am not, permitted to buy publicly traded stock shares in which (A) the company is a firm client and (B) I did work for the company. In both scenarios, I lack material nonpublic information about the company; however, I also don’t want to risk the SEC asking questions. Is a 6 month or year-long cooling off period a good rule of thumb? Say after the IPO and doing zero work for the company? The trade would be under $10,000. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.

Was thinking need to replace the post tax take home, about $550k NPV’ed at 5% to age 55, so that’s like $3.2M. Maybe pension is worth $2.5M so I think that means I should have $5.7 total you want death to have no financial impact. Also was going to do $1M of that in perm w/ LTC rider. Sound right?
