Hey Googlers, I’m going in for my GCP TAM second round on Monday and had a few QQs for you all:
1. For the RRK2 case study if there is a scenario for handling peak time workloads where the client did a lift & shift of a monolithic architecture, is the best suggestion to move them to micro services to enable serverless and auto scaling features?
2. I was told that they’ll give me 15 mins to prep after the case study is shared live, would you suggest I build a 1 pager or is that not required?Google

If you spend time, bill the time. Period.
It is totally expected that what a senior associate could do in 5 minutes might take you an hour. It is frequently more efficient and cheaper for the client if the senior associates did everything; but that’s not the model. You’re learning, and learning takes time (and therefore money).
Depending on the circumstances, you might want to just ask the senior rather than spin your wheels for hours. Use your judgment. There are times when you should just pick up the phone and get the senior’s attention for 30 seconds to get the guidance you need. And times when you shouldn’t ask too many questions and should just dig in.
But if you think the work needs the time, do the time and bill the time.
You should try to figure it out before asking the senior and include what you tried in your email. If after a reasonable time you can’t figure it out, then ask the senior.
I didn’t make it clear but this has already been done prior to me asking the question. I’ve never not tried to figure it out on my own. My question is geared towards how long is an acceptable amount of time to bill “figuring things out.”

If you have other work to do, do that first and circle back in a couple hours/next day etc as makes sense for the task and deadline. If you don’t have other work to do, spend (and bill) the time it takes you to figure it out for yourself.
