Let's put this clearly, Trump doesn't represent conservatism. Far from it. Trump represents the worst of the Republican party that the GOP thought they could control but in the end now controls the GOP. Trump represents the racism and bigotry the GOP used in order to garner the votes to get their tax cuts.
So if you support Trump you're not supporting conservatism or limited government.
I am slightly positive about Trump, so of course I keep my mouth shut at work. I agree that the liberal climate right now violently shutters free speech if you don’t agree with the left
I’m a closeted republican in the office
Also, people always talked about Trump and put him down. Not say that I agree or disagree, but if I supported him openly, I almost feel like HR would be having a discussion with me
Yes, the New York area. I'm all for diversity and inclusion, everyone should be. It is just that I feel a reasonable conservative person is truly inclusive everyone's idea, even the idea not like someone else's idea. In my opinion, the side of the firm and those of many liberals is that if your view doesn't agree with someone else's View, then you are wrong and shouldn't be able to share your view. How is that diversity and inclusion
I’m definitely in the closet as well. I find those who do not support Trump so incredibly intolerant of other viewpoints that I find myself agreeing with them to avoid any type of controversy
I’ve found a lot of people lean libertarian / are more accepting of an intellectual challenge if you engage in an honest convo. With our industry experience, how can we advocate for more centralized power by any group?
Closeted libertarian here as well in NYC. I would never reveal my views at work or even to most friends. Saying you think smaller government is more efficient shouldn't have people calling you nazis
Definitely a closeted conservative. Consulting is an echo chamber politically.
And yes, there is a specific problem when it comes to Trump conservatism because it is inherently threatening to diversity (Mexicans are rapists, shithole countries, etc.) which consulting employers espouse as a key value.
Exactly P1. I just defer to saying “I have to admit the man has balls” which everyone tends to agree with. Then I try to change the topic
^gun control. If my family grew up shooting guns and doing recreational events, totally foreign to hear such a concept and my family must be crazy to participate in such a culture.
The Big 4 - especially yours are very liberal - if you don’t agree you are much better off not saying anything - be very careful who and what you say
Of course the liberals have spread to the smaller firms now and offers gender reassignment surgery - I’m sure very few people will take advantage but wow there are no words .... does anyone think that maybe a little counseling might be a good idea before going under the knife - can anyone tell me why our leftists friends are so pro professional help unless the person is a protected group, homeless, trans gender, drug user, then even hinting that professional help makes sense makes you a Nazi - apparently people who are BS crazy are the only ones who don’t need help
Probably depends on location A1. Being libertarian leaning usually means criticism from both sides when you don't fit their straw man schema
Are you in NYC or SF? Most ppl aren't terribly political but there definitely a fiscal conservative skew where I am
Obviously depends on the situation, but most liberals I interact with (small sample size) take the argument that conservative views infringe on the rights of underprivileged/underrepresented groups (or don’t do enough to address the inequalities that exist).
Let me ask a question. What do all of you consider liberals and what are those views that you say you have to pretend to agree with?
The first one that comes to mind is that borders are a thing of the past and that anyone who wants to come should be able to without constraint
And that all college should be 100% free. However, I do think we should have a universal healthcare system and should legalize recreational drugs
This is interesting. I believe in free trade, small government, and I am a proud gun owner and never had any issues expressing or discussing my views. Hell most insults I get actually call me a bleeding heart libyard because I am a big proponent of diversity and inclusion.
