As a new associate, just having graduated and taken the bar, what expectations do you have for the work you will handle in a transactional practice you are joining... In the first few days, first few months and the end of your first year?

First few days: closing binders and closing checklists.

First few months: reviewing documents re specific questions, checking section references and defined terms and things along those lines.

End of first year: drafting ancillary/minor documents.

That was my experience rather than my expectations. Whatever expectations people may have are ridiculous because they know nothing when they are just starting (though I suppose that doesn't stop them from having expectations).

First few days - weeks: attend training, pay attention and take notes, 0% expectation to do billable work

First few months: manage your team’s deadlines and work flows, draft call agendas, do diligence on agreements/docs and draft diligence requests (all vetted by more senior associates), take a first crack at drafting a diligence memo for the agreements you reviewed, take notes during diligence calls and circulate after the call, be the point in contact for the deals as the most junior person, ask a lot of questions during all the aforementioned process so that it saves time for the seniors when they review your work, incorporate seniors and partners comments to the purchase agreements, etc.

First year: make yourself known as a dependent junior associate who will stay on top of deadlines and carefully review all agreements. Start marking up purchase agreements (expect heavy redlining and dont get disheartened) and draft ancillary/minor documents, manage the deals more seamlessly and keep your seniors in loop of all impending deadlines, basically make it easier for them to oversee your work

Has anyone been able to make sense of the Raissa Kengne situation or know her personally?

Apparently the lady who shot three people in Atlanta today did so as a result of a dispute with her ex-employer (BDO, accounting firm). Her claim was that she lost her job after becoming a whistle blower. One of the victims was a PPD at BDO. The below appears to be a linked post of hers.

2- Are there growth opportunities in this field; like is there a corporate ladder in this path to look forward to?

I am a mid level associate but have only been in private practice a little over a year. I'm still learning firm life etiquette.
