As a new joiner in the pandemic era, how do you make friends and get to know your colleagues when you WFH most of the time?

Volunteer for side projects, internal initiatives, or BD. Work that doesn't have a clearly pre defined deliverable or project plan will need more open discussions and a chance for you to speak up and others to get to know you. Plus, everyone hates doing BD, so anything you contribute will be appreciated. Also, show up to meetings and maybe join 3 minutes early (no more than about 3 minutes though) , instead of sneaking in quietly at the last second. You can chat and say hello. But at the minimum people will see you repeatedly and others will be interested in getting to know you. Another thing is to simply concentrate on delivering good work and doing it early. People gravitate towards successful people. Doing good work will get you noticed. Turn in first drafts of work for feedback early. Ask others for commentary. Balance confidence with humility. You can literally ask experienced teammates for feedback on your work if you do it early. Chat with them live. This is how friendships are built. I think people reveal themselves (their true character) at work. But it takes time. Arrogant, selfish, and dishonest people that eventually reveal themselves at work are not the type of people you want to be friends with in your personal life (or do professional networking with them either). Be the opposite of an arrogant, selfish, dishonest, or greedy person. You will reveal yourself by how you behave at work. People will gravitate towards you.

Coffee breaks are my way to go! If you click with someone a teams message to check in here and there work wonders too !

Sorry forgot to add that I joined last month and already made a few friends

“happy hours” after work with peers in your home office city. just find some group chats you’re associated with and bring up the idea, i’m sure people will be down.

I would keep in contact with folks that were in your virtual trainings. Some live in my city but a lot of folks live in other states.

I gave notice because I am moving to another state for personal reasons and now my boss wants me to be fully remote. At first he was 100% ok with me being fully remote but now he is discussing dropping my pay 50% to allow me to be remote. Like no... am I right to consider that absolutely wrong given that I would be doing literally the same job I have been doing and putting in the same hours as anyone else? I was remote already throughout Covid so idk what the issue is now

I am working at MSLGROUP as an Associate, less than 1 yoe , they have asked me to relocate in 4 weeks to the Location (currently wfh). Also I have an offer from one of the competitors based in my City. Relocating will shoot up my expenses and joining the competitor is kind of a downgrade in terms of brand. What do you think guys?

Help me on below queries 1. Time taken by pwc India to deliver laptop. 2. Are they still reimbursing wfh setup. 3. By when wfh is extended.

For the past month+ my wife has been relegated to WFH and her company said they don’t see this ending for a couple months. I no longer have any alone time to decompress. How do I bring this up to her?

So most people are WFH for the next few months probably. Does anyone feel like they’re learning the same amount as a junior if things were normal (more hands on, direct interaction, normal production, etc)? Would you consider the 6-12 months of working from home as proper experience to push you to mid level? I want to advance to mid-level (🤑) but also genuinely am concerned that maybe I’m not learning the ins and outs that I normally would as a junior right now.

Ladies, would this be a huge turn off? “Lives with parents, can’t date him” type thing? I’m an only child and my parents bought a new house in 1996 with an unfinished basement. Since I’m paying their house off anyways, I finished the basement and made it incredible. Designed the whole thing myself and have everything I want. It has its own entrance, and the backyard is beautiful. I have an amazing, large double shower, and a beautiful kitchen and nice closet with laundry.

Considering a mini pivot from growth/performance marketing to a product marketing role and hoping for a gut check from those who have done both. I'm trying to move away from the transactional culture of growth marketing, which feels like a numbers game. I'm also intrigued by product management and user research, but not ready to invest in that bigger leap, so product marketing seems like a half-step to get more exposure to those teams. Am I on the right track here? Any advice on the transition?
