As a non-CPA finance professional - how do I position myself for CFO type positions? I've been in corporate finance and strategy positions for ~5 years, and plan to continue, but I see so many finance positions that require heavy accounting experience. Any success stories, or experience to share?

Do you mean CFA? I’ve heard CPA is much easier relative to CFA and if you are expecting to become a c suite exec then that’s a pretty low cost investment to make in yourself

There are a few time intensive requirements that I'm not super interested in, like ones that would require me to go back to school. Also would require me to work under a CPA for a certain period of time which would further limit my current career options.

No offense but why do you think you are qualified for a c suite role with only 5 years experience?

You need broader finance exposure. None of the CFOs I’ve worked with have had either CPAs or CFAs - but consider an MBA.

Regardless of education, you need to build experience in the core areas the CFO oversees: 1) Financial Reporting - SEC and internal, 2) Strategy, 3) FP&A, and 4) importantly, depending on the firm, Treasury. I’d also recommend spending time embedded in a business line finance function. Managing the full business line finance function is your best track to becoming a firm’s CFO.

Also a non-CPA professional in the banking industry and am seeing the same things you are in relation to the requirement. No advice to give currently, but you’re not alone in your position!

So I work for a multimillion dollar company
Here’s my dilemma. I started as a temp in the traffic department as a scheduler in April of 2021. I was making 44K a year with ZERO benefits.
I applied for a different position in logistics and got the job! BUT is came with a HUGE pay cut. I went from making 44K a year to 32K. I work my butt off and feel like I should be making more for my responsibilities. I’ve only been here a year but I do more than I should.
Is it too soon to renegotiate my pay?
