As a public school teacher do you think it’s okay to have a bumper sticker on my car for the presidential candidate I am supporting?

Legally you have the right, the school cannot tell you what to do with your personal property. You have the right to support your candidate in whatever fashion you choose. That said, consider the effects that it could have of people at school and in your school community knowing who you were voting for. If that is something you’re comfortable with then go for it if not then you might want to reconsider.

During the last election, one of our teachers had her car “keyed” and she was displaying a candidate bumper sticker. School police never caught the man (there was video of the parking lot). For me, I would not. My opinions are my personal business and not for public consumption.

See if your district has a policy about that first

Is it ok? I think so. My students know who I support. On either side, if they support a candidate, I ask why. They better have an answer or they get homework on their positions.

I personally don't do it, but to each his/her own.

If we hide what we believe in, how is that role modeling for our youth? My views are just as important as anyone else’s and we can have respectfully disagree because that’s what we do in class. If you hide your views then aren’t you telling students do the same when it gets too challenging. I’m speaking from a LGBTQ standpoint but this can carry over to political opinions as well. Let’s stop walking on egg shells and be true to ourselves and show students they can too❤️

Not In Massachusetts! I had my vehicle vandalized for things like that

You have a right to support any candidate you want, just like every other American.

It depends on your district. It also depends on your town. Will the candidate bring retaliation by followers of the other party? My views do not match most of my neighbors. Therefore, I would not. However, in my last town, people were more accepting of political differences and I had a yard sign and bumper stickers. It is a vitriolic political time and one’s community would determine this. I hope your area is more open than mine. 🤞🏼😬

I personally wouldn’t want to do this, but I don’t even tell my wife who I vote for each election. We’re all different, but I choose to keep my personal political beliefs out of my classroom.

The fact that you asked says that you aren't sure it is ok. I usually tell my students if they question whether they should or shouldn't, the answer often is Don't do it.

My daughter (age 9) eats too much. I've tried telling her to only eat when hungry, to drink more water, etc on occasion so I don't cause any eating disorder issues. Ive never mentioned anything about weight, but that we must eat healthy and exercise to take care of our bodies. But she still eats so much (constant snacking, large meals, etc).
Asking for tips and advice on how to handle this without causing any eating disorders/self esteem issues.

To all the new teachers out there- the most important thing you can learn is classroom management. I’m working with someone who doesn’t quite get it. Often lessons devolve into chaos. It seems to be as long as the kids are enjoying it - then it’s ok. You also need to learn is to help out - to help set up, help pick up, help in whatever ways are needed. Don’t wait to be asked. Put down the freaking phone and pay attention! Finally, try to learn from your coworkers. You don’t know it all!

My super interintendant is not accurately portraying the staffing struggle in my district. We are the largest & lowest paid in the state. His news interview stated covid and technology are the two reasons for it. Before the pandemic my department was always short staffed. The raises are locked in and pennies a year ($14 to start) Should I let the news station know his info is false? We've been asking for more pay for years through pur union rep. Students are being hired as custodians as well

Sitting here drinking a white claw when I see my cat Bootsy watching me *very* intently. Reminded me of the end of last school year when I noticed a student discreetly recording me while I was eating my lunch. I saw her sitting there in her seat with the face of her phone angled in such a way that it appeared that the camera lens was aimed at me. "Are you recording me?" She put her phone down and murmured an affirmative. So sketchy. Have you ever had a student recording you discreetly?
