If you actually get let go and receive severance you will be the first associate to do so since the Great Recession. They would rather coach you out than pay severance or have you attempt to collect unemployment benefits.
^Three things can happen, 1, you get put on PIP, 2, you get laid off w/ severance, or 3, a combination of 1 and 2. The firms would rather have you find a job on your own and/or give you enough time to look for new work to avoid having you file for unemployment benefits.
Performance improvement plan aka the firms way of documenting the "cause" it needs to fire you and not pay severance
Also, no you should not expect severance.

Severance is termination pay. It's in your contract. They need cause to fire you for cause to not pay it.

You will get severance. Don't know what PwC 1 is talking about when PwC's policy is one week severance pay per year spent with the firm.
