As a tax manager how do you stop feeling like a factory worker on the line churning out tax returns? I’m outgoing and do not like being in the weeds…stayed in public accounting thinking making manager would get me to more of a sales/client relationship position but nothing changed since I was the main client contact as a senior and now have no one to delegate to.

Without a team to delegate to and trust, you will always be in the weeds. The question is what are you doing to build your team. We are in the middle of busy season, so this year is shot mostly. You must have at least one person more junior to turn to and try to build up ASAP

The firm I work at lets staff choose what area they work in regardless of where there’s a need. I’m a sales person at heart, but no one wants to work in my industry regardless of how good I sell. Everyone loves me but wants to go down the traditional tax paths. It’s been an issue forever…I was the dumb one who say it as an opportunity. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Originslly it was just my area that had the issue, but now it’s a matter of not having anyone but partners above us and no one below us in my office after the insane turnover we’ve had this year. It’s just me and one other manager. We talk to leaders about it and the only solution is India.

Leave public accounting

What market are you? We’re very focused on trying to get managers to be more client facing and comfortable being in the market. It’s a team effort to create the environment where a manager has time to do that. It’s not easy, but it’s the goal. Feel free DM me.

Anyone else think the "Audit Experience" requirement for FDD roles is overblown?

From my experience talking and working alongside individuals in FDD is that the first year has a steep learning curve and while an Audit background is a nice to have the work you'll be doing is different from Audit.

I would think it would make more sense to bring in an associate sooner rather than wasting another year in Audit when they could already be learning the FDD role.

Hi All, I have been in TCS for the past 3.5 years. I have asked my supervisor for promotion, he gives excuses of Band criteria and COVID-19.
Will my promotion to ITA happen automatically once I complete 4 years in TCS or will it have to be done by the Actual process of begging managers and HRs to get the promotion.
Additionally, if I do get promoted to ITA, how many months will I have to wait to resign.
TIA.

Working at small firm for 7 years. They created a new Staff Manager position to supervise and train the support staff in 1 office and other internal operation tasks. They promoted a paralegal into the position. They just asked me to take on the training across all offices because the Staff Manager is doing 50% paralegal work due to turnover. I told them if I were to take on a task of a manager, I should get a promotion and raise to do the task. They did not agree. What do you think?

I started a new job as an “office manager” at the end of January. The duties seem to align more with those of an EA, and I’m ok with that. Except my boss is a control freak. He scolds me over every little thing, how I load the dishwasher, maybe I didn’t push my chair in. Last week he told me I needed to work on my appearance. I was shocked. I bought all new clothes from Ann Taylor that are perfectly acceptable for business casual. He hates me. Move on ASAP or try to stick it out ?

To those who practice bankruptcy: think I can get my Federal law loans forgiven in a Chapter 7 if I haven’t been able to get law jobs after graduating almost half a decade ago and objectively give up on the law to go back to retail? It’s probably time for me to stop trying but I also can’t deal with a third of a million dollars debt over my head if I’m earning sales associate wages at a retailer.
