Absolutely agree with this! I also think when a male senior level colleague champions you as a female Hi-Po candidate, there tends to be more buy in from the organization on your performance/potential.

like

Absolutely. I have a male colleague who is new to the business, I taught him everything he knows, earns twice my salary, and is up for promotion above me. I work in a male dominated company. There is only one female in higher management across 6 branches in the country.

Men are promoted on perceived potential
Women are promoted on already doing the job/results.

IMHO i agree. I think we hold ourselves to higher standards and they are ok letting us, without meeting us where we are and/or making it ok to break when we need to.

Patriarchy is a helluva drug. To the point where you have things reversed VP Media.

Here is the truth: They are holding us to higher standards without meeting us where we are / making it ok to break when we need to and we are allowing it.

This reminds me of the think pieces blaming women for “imposter syndrome.” The very name places the blame on the person reacting to male centric career bias and gaslighting.

Yes I’ve always had to go above and beyond to prove my worth throughout my career. Some companies are now training men in leadership to appreciate the diversity and value a woman brings to the table.

I have been in senior roles for 15+ years and believe this has been and still is the norm.

Ambition and assertiveness often present differently in women than men and therefore can go unnoticed by those who doing the assessing. Additionally, I can’t think of something more subjective than than charisma … one person’s hero is most definitely another’s office **hole

I’d go further to say that poor performance by males is typically chalked up to some explanatory factor (but he is working really hard, he’s going through some stuff, he’s a great guy and just needs more time to learn the business are some I’ve heard) and tolerated for very, very long periods of time where criticism of women on the team is quick to come and hard to reverse.

But, it is better than it was when I started so on we go.

Yes, absolutely!

As a manager, I try really hard to be cognizant of this when evaluating women, although sometimes I feel I may overcompensate and lean the other way in an effort to support them in career growth where they may not necessarily be ready for next steps

Maybe you need to support them in the ways that they would like to be supported? Just a thought

Relatively new to SAAS negotiations but how often do sales deals die because of legal? Buyer’s Legal threatening to pull the plug on this purchase and go w/ a competitor SAAS because we cannot accept their requested changes to indemnity, reps & warranties. Hellooo, need some advice. I am in a small team of 4 people. One of the female team member is extremely dominant. She picks up multiple stories at one go that was supposedly created to be shared and knowledge shared, finishes work belonging to other stories and doesn't think twice to put others down to make herself look good. I escalated to my boss and even boss's boss. They are not taking any action because the person in question has been here for 6+ years.should I just quit? What are my option
