The question is not what we do or not. The fact is that 49%of the country voted because they hated a black man and would never let a woman replace that. They needed a white man who treated women like objects, blacks as insignificant and immigrants as unwanted. FYI all Bible Belt states have the most unreported rapes mostly perpetrated by known people as boyfriends or family members.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Indians were sympathetic to Trump because they generally agree with his platform; conservative-leaning, a avowedly pro-business and anti-Muslim.
Also, while Trump is an aberration in US politics - intellectually, experientially etc he's more celebrity than serious policy person - Indians have seen this kind of personality politics before in their own country, so it's not as big a deal as it is for Americans.
EY1, yes you don't have to, just like you didn't have to comment on my post. Just wanted to hear your thoughts. Don't get so riled up
Okay. It's a free country we're allowed to support anyone we choose to without having to justify it to you.
EY1 is way too sensitive...Chill out.
OP sounded like he wanted to start a conversation. EY1 sounded like he was on the defensive. Kinda came out of left field
DC1, please stop making up facts. You just called 49% of the country racist. In my opinion, inflammatory assumptions such as that are what's tearing this country apart.
EY2 - strategies? I am all for the economic well-being of a country but how one can overlook the racist, hate speeches of this bigot which have mostly targeted minorities based on their religion, sexuality, nationality is beyond me
What about Trump makes him a "blatant racist"? Has he literally done something hateful/harmful or are we just twisting words/actions to make them appear more dramatic than reality?
OP just because you don't agree doesn't mean racist. Protecting the borders, controlling immigration are the hallmarks of maintaining sovereignty.
Just want to point out that Hillary is not a socialist.
That went from 0-anger very quickly. Asian here, parents supported trump. Main reason was due to the morality questions surrounding Hilary, as well as their choice of news outlets. They openly admit to being concerned about what Trump is doing now, though
Honestly, I know a lot of Indians that hate Democrats because they tax us highly, and affirmative action hurts Asians only. Asians are the only minority who gets screwed by Democrats
Thanks BCG1
Why does being an Indian matter? It's because of people like you who start these kinds of threads that people can't get past their differences.
Thank you for another example of a generalization...
Asian here. I think my parents voted Trump, I purposely keep politics to a minimum when with them, like, "stop watching that fake news" when they have Fox News on tv, to which they say it's not. Conversation ends and we move on. Duno if they truly believe the Fox koolaid or if they support Trump for personal economic reasons based on their bracket (e.g. taxes). I've never gotten into it with them on specifics about 45's racism, sexism, etc, I know I'd win the convo but not without blowing up at them or convincing them.
Indian here. I also happen to be gay. I think Trump is a total moron, and people like Pence and Cruz are even WORSE but if I could I'd vote for him over Hillary. Why? Because I dislike socialism and extreme pan leftist ideology where even acknowledging genuine threat from radical Islamists (NOT Muslims, there is a big difference!) is considered Islamophobia. I'm also in favor of income tax cuts which would never happen under a Democratic Party dispensation. Trump has said and done some really vile things, but America didn't have 500 million candidates to choose from. There were only two rotten apples.
EY3, I am a gay immigrant as well. And supporting Hillary didn't mean you are automatically endorsing socialism - that's a hyperbole. Most presidential candidates including Hillary, Cruz, Rubio and past president were all for free trade. Capitalism from US is not going away! In fact, it is Trump who is resorting to some of the extreme socialist ideas by withdrawing from TPP and appears a big threat to globalization in general by cutting trade ties and cracking down on even legal immigrants. Oh and since you are part of the LGBT community, maybe you would also care for the T in LGBT for which Trump recently rescinded protections that allowed these transgender students to use the bathroom of their choice. Let's get our facts correct.
OP - I'm with you there regarding taking a stand against ugly rhetoric, that for us may be considered our "bottom line" in our decisions to support or go against a candidate. That being said, everyone will have their bottom line that appeals to them to justify their choice. Other folks I've spoken to (also Asian) who also voted Trump had different bottom line deciding factors that trumped (no pun intended) the negative rhetoric...one was NYPD: "we need to change and shake up the existing corrupt system." The other was a doctor: "socialism is not the American dream my parents came here for."
