Your internship isn’t the end all be all of your career. Of course you can switch to a different industry once you actually start working full time, but for now just keep a positive attitude and putting your best foot forward so that you can get that offer letter
They don’t tell you if you’re getting an offer until the last day of the internship. But, almost 100% of interns get offers unless you do something really bad. But, you can mention to your coach and team your intention to switch to another group. They can help you meet people in that industry and help you switch to that group once you get your offer and start full-time.
Is pwc 1 said, pretty much everyone is close to guaranteed an offer. Try not to stress, and enjoy your internship. Interns are pretty much the only employees treated well by the firm. It’s all downhill front their 😭
Almost everyone gets an offer unless they mess up really badly. The situations where I've seen people not get offers is stuff like strolling in at 10am everyday, leaving early on Fridays without asking/letting anyone know, coming in super hungover every Saturday (during busy). Expectations for interns are super low and people just want to see if you put in the effort.
Did any interns not get an offer because they aren’t really getting it ? Aka take their sweet time and make a few mistakes ?
Obviously it would be different at every firm, but where I am the expectations for interns are we pretty much have the lowest of the low in terms of their abilities and do not expect them to be able to do anything perfectly at all. Mostly, they want to see the interns putting in effort. There usually isn't a ton of work for summer interns so don't sit and do nothing, ask around to different teams to see if you can help. If there's nothing to do, go through some (locked down) audit files and see if you can follow them or study for the CPA. Volunteer to go get everyone coffee. Try to write stuff down when someone is explaining an assignment so you don't have to go back in an hour to ask them to explain what they already explained. Try to attempt something before asking, but only spend 20-30 minutes and don't sit there for 5 hours with no idea what to do. Don't stroll in at 10am everyday, don't try to work from home ever (you can't, you have no idea what you're doing), don't watch the clock and leave at 4:55 everyday, see what the rest of the team is doing. Don't come in hungover and throw up in the conference room. Basically act like you would act if you worked there full time and weren't just an intern, so they know you won't pull the same stuff if they did hire you full time.
Actually OP, noticed you probably aren't studying for the CPA but study for whatever test you want to take.
I am doing a poor job at work and messed up a few work papers on an assignment and manager basically told me if I don’t get my shit together I won’t be getting an offer I was taking too long completing tasks, and did them incorrectly :-
