And I’m all for mothers getting better maternity leave and benefits.
I just feel like they are almost touting it so they can try and pay me less, as I have male friends making more.
And I’m uncomfortable saying I don’t want kids because some people are nasty when you say that. 🤦♀️
I don’t harp on it, but I do make sure to mention it when extending offers or if someone asks about benefits. A lot of women are afraid to ask because they don’t want it to be a reason not to hire them, so I want to make sure they know that support is there for them should they need it.
I agree - I have been the unfortunate position of asking and re-asking for the details around mat leave in negotiations and HR conversations when pursuing a new job, and I always feel like it gives the hiring manager the sense that I'm going to get hired and immediately go on leave. I prefer that recruiters and HR bring it up proactively, to everyone. It's really important in making a decision (at least it was for me!)
Agreed. Often mentioned for me as well (female, 30s)
I would ask, as a retort to that, what sabbatical, adoption or relocation benefits are as well. See if they have options that don’t fit binary gender paths!
