As I sit here and lesson plan on my day off, I'm wondering how important planning is- especially for us veteran teachers. I mean, I sometimes spend hours on one and then throw it out or change it anyway.

Strength in content knowledge and a tight curriculum, lesson plans don't matter. 90% of the time I have a rough outline in my head and a handout of practice problems. 16 years of teaching upper level Math.

Thanks for sharing.

Veteran of 23 years here, and I love lesson planning as it helps keep me on my toes and with all the experience that I have I usually know if it is going to work or not (not always). Sometimes things don't work out, but don't throw it away, most of the time things can be fixed and it will work wonders next time.

I have been virtual all year and my kiddos can’t read yet, so a lot of my planning is centered around modeling things that can be done at home and explaining it to parents. I have found some choice boards that have already been created with some great ureas, but then have to take into account resources parents may or may not have at home, and then translate them into Spanish so that my students’ families can understand them. It’s been a lot, but I am proud of the work I’ve done, and will find a way to incorporate it into my teaching in the future when we are no longer virtual. 😃

You know sometimes it’s just too much trying to stay up any longer at night to plan, I have to simplify so I can have a life. Veteran, rough outline, if stuck then on to TPT!

I am a veteran teacher as well, and feel as though as if I’m starting all over again this year! The Scope & Sequence and units may be the same, but everything about the way we are teaching is different! In order to create lessons in a new way so that students at home can participate in hands-on learning using what they have at home, I have had to be very creative! Because I don’t want my kids sitting in front of the screen too long, lessons are restructured to incorporate pantomime and movement often! In order to maximize the time with our kiddos online and involve parents in the learning in a meaningful way, planning is more important than ever...no matter how long you’ve taught!

I have an idea and a rough outline of where I need to start and how to go, but I am a pantser. We get there and it works, but I need to react to what my kids are doing and having trouble with and success with. Right now being all online, I have to plan more and I find value in that, but also wish I could see my students’ reactions to really know what’s going on.

So, I had to be away for two days. On my way back into town, I stopped at my classroom, just to make sure it was still standing. It's finally happened. I can feel that I have given up. The breaking point? My CD making a big deal out of having a call on Saturday at 1 pm to look over a deck that was due this morning. I rearrange my schedule. I move my kids piano lesson. I stay up until 2 the night before making sure everything is in line. He never calls. Doesn't respond to my text. I send him the deck and he doesn't respond until Sunday afternoon. Then gets pissy when I say I can't hop on the phone at that exact moment.

Considering going back to PA. I left PA due to some health issues but I am starting to feel like I left too early. I am a Senior Accountant at a public start up making 80k + equity. I have an offer to go back to a national firm as an S2 at $82 plus sign on bonus. I am really not interested in the work I am doing now and ultimately want to be in management which is hard to see a path to currently - it’s definitely more clear in PA. Am I giving up too much by leaving the equity on the table?

There is a paralegal (not mine) in my firm that is making everyone miserable. She cries at her desk, complains about being overworked and is rude to the other paralegals, staff, and a couple of the attorneys. She is so disrespectful to me that I recently asked to work from home for a month (I am dealing with some other mental health issues and she is too much). My request was granted, and last Friday I was in the office to make sure several motions were filed properly. Continued in comment:

As I prepared to file my notice, the partner of the firm called me and asked me to stay. They’re willing to promote me mid year in December and increase salary next year in August. The current offer I have gives 60% pay increase and Partner still can’t match that offer after promotion. Firm leadership says here I have potential to be a partner in 8 years and talk about all the leadership support I have rn which is fair. Is this one of their tactics to make me stay or should I just leave…
