Friends in IVYs earning less than 60k. Many ppl in top notch companies struggling to find interest. I can. Get btw clients if I want, new sort of challenge in every engagement, I can do recruiting or I can publish internal newsletters. I can reorganize the staff programs or just mentor two of them. More of, I can take 2 day trainings which normally will cost thousands Some ppl do have shitty teams but for what is worth it. Big4 r blessings
Servers don't make poor choices, most of them choose to live a simple life. A life where you have more freedom. A lot of them don't have the confidence to go to something new. And when they choose they can make a career, when the time is right. What is the race anyways. I loved your original post, I think we are lucky. But put yourself above anyone else?
You're comment is exactly what I'm talking about. See the silver lining my friend. Without this opportunity you might not have ever had the opportunity to get the job you really want/ love.
A public undergrad university with strong big 4 recruitment is the way to go.
LOL says that work life balance. Can't wait to peace out and start working to live rather than the other way around. Not gonna spend my prime years in the bowels of bs.
^Trudat. I was soo excited when I got my offer.
That's not nice to relish in others' misfortunes. If he got the top grades then he was obviously smart and is now simply a victim of the law school farce.
My law school friends are still looking for jobs. Had one LinkedIn message me and say he was between jobs, thinking about a MAC program. This was the guy who kissed everyone ass and got top grades. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Is there an over abundance of new lawyers looking for work and a limited amount of jobs available to them ?
We have jobs not careers. Career is a long term thing. Big 4 is 2-3 years and then run for your fucking life
Please elaborate on this "law school farce", I do not understand what you mean
^exactly OP. I'm not relishing in the misfortune of others. He made a conscious decision to practice law, I got an accounting degree after law school. I feel like I was a bit smarter 😄
Remember reading years ago big4 employees suffer from fagony which is fake agony. We love to tell war stories of busy seasons gone by.
Senior managers at B4 are below starting salaries at law firms. Public accounting is safe and will hire any spreadsheet monkey willing to drink the awesome experience kool aid that believe they are saving capital markets.
I'm not saying that everybody is a server because of bad choices, I'm just saying that this particular friend of mine is because he made poor decisions. Regardless, if being a server is your dream or end goal than get out there and chase the dream. Everybody has a different situation. Your job shouldn't get to determine who you are to society or what your worth is. Everybody is equal. From CEO to janitor
Would you say that an accounting degree is a smarter decision both economically (cost vs benefit) and career wise?
Unless you are going to a top 10 law school yes. But even then, a MAC degree from a good school or even an accounting undergrad from a good school that has all B4 recruiting is most likely going to be better when you consider debt and promotions.
Stuff like this why dont just quit and figure it out lol
Starting salaries out of law school are around 150k. Starting salaries at B4 are around 55k. Which one is better?
And by the way, my friend also received a $75k interest free loan at his law firm for the purchase of a home
I'll tell you this, your friends that are serving tables are living life with no regrets. You get to travel, have freedom, and fun. Nothing wrong with being a server. Some of those servers make >100k take home.
