As we all finish out the day today and look forward to the weekend. Does your job make you log on during the weekend? I shut off my laptop and don’t have it on till 7:30am Monday

Mine doesn't, and I'm very thankful for that. I put in a lot of effort during the week, I wouldn't be happy if I was expected to be responsive on the weekends. My laptop will be closing at 5 PM on the dot and I won't be looking at it again until Monday morning.

Does it make me log on? No. If there are production issues though, I will generally not feel bad about logging in to help. It's a trade-off of being full remote, they get that dedication and I get the flexibility

Although I do have teams on my phone so I can be reached anytime

No, Once we are done for the week, we can log out until Monday. At this point in my career, I wouldn't be happy if my company required us to log on during the weekend.

Nope, I have never been asked to work over the weekends. I'm grateful for that. My company is so big on work-life balance. It was my first job out of college so I thought all tech companies were like this.

My team is logged off most weekends. However our team has a production support pager rotation every 2 months that we have to on-call when it’s our turn.

I clock in and out when I work. So it makes a difference. On weekends and nights it’s almost as if I forgot where I work

7:30? Thats od, 10 on monday is when i log in.

I’m more than happy to log on if it is backed up by a good pay:)

I'm there with you. My company does not require us to work on weekends, but if I am behind on your then I will pull out my work laptop for a couple hours on a Saturday to tie up some lose ends.

5 days a week should be the norm. If you had to work on weekends you should have flexibility for a comp off later. Then both will be benefited. No more than 40 hours a week should be expected from a company.

Does my work MAKE me log on over the weekend? Absolutely NOT. Do I often CHOOSE to do so? Yeah. I find a quick 15-30 minutes of scrolling through my email on Sunday and reviewing my calendar for the week sets me up for a smooth week with minimal surprises.

I’m a staff (been here about a year) and have a senior who is traditionally not well liked. Her and I however get along pretty well. Recently I did something not to the standard she had wanted (twice). I asked to be walked through it and she started the phone call essentially being like what happened here? Why was this such a problem? I honestly just had no idea what she was looking for wasn’t what she wanted. She’s never walked me through a WP and I went off of PY.

What are the score-maximizing steps for the online GMAT logistically? Know for the in-person, the best thing to do was always to cancel if it’s not above 760 and then reinstate within 30 days to eventually send to schools so you can hide the attempt. Is it the same for the online?

Current job working with aws to new company with azure, is it a good move?

My company is adopting Scrum and hiring a bunch of agile coaches to assist with sprints. We got assigned our agile coach that'll be starting soon.

I read a description of what this role is supposed to be for and it sounds like they'll be leading Scrum ceremonies. So they run the planning meeting, the retrospective and daily stand ups. Up to now, I've been doing those and it's taken a total of like 2 hours a week of my time.

What on earth do agile coaches do with the other 95% of their time?

Remote vs in person for software developers in their early career. I started my career in 2021 fully remote. After the office opened again in 2022, I was able to learn a lot about the system from other people in the office and solve bugs faster. Without a doubt made my job easier. Lots of my colleagues still work from home in 2022. I can’t see why they are making it harder for themselves on purpose. I’m fairly confident they can afford to get to the office because they have teslas and shit.

Hi everyone. I made the switch to tech this year via coding boot camp. I'm not confident in my skill at all. Are there any courses, sites, projects or paths one would suggest I look into? Anything that'll help me think like a dev?

Quitting before finalizing offers?

I’m at post onsite and negotiation stage at a couple places but it may take another month or 2 due to either hiring freezes or general slow processes.

I want to quit now to go on vacations that I held off during prep. Does it make much difference when I negotiate offers? Like if my upcoming unvested RSU would be (partially) matched, and they find out I quit somehow, is it no longer matched? Other potential snags?

Already burned most of my PTO interviewing.
