My advice: Concentrate on yourself above anything else, follow orders but also know how those orders affect you, serve your country but never forget you are serving yourself first. The objective is not to die honorably but to survive dutifully. What else would you add?

I look forward to the one-on-one that I have with my manager with the same amount of enthusiasm that I typically reserve for colonoscopy prep.
Hi everyone!! I'm new here! Just want to say I love seeing how kind and helpful everyone seems to be so far. I'm actively seeking a new employer since I'm a contractor now...no, subcontractor. I'm such an amazing asset to my clients and they regularly sing my praise. However, my role was always designed to be a contracted position. I feel like I've exhausted my options on LinkedIn, ZipRecruiter, ect.. I see the same jobs every day. Any ideas how to search for a career outside of job boards? TIA
Can anyone refer me at Nagarro ??
Have to plan for childcare for when I have to return to work after my first child (we get 12 weeks). Did you hire a live in, someone come to house daily or did you bring to a daycare? How much did you pay and where do you live? Am trying to figure out how much good child care will run me.
Has anyone ever done a Gallup interview? I'm so worried that I bombed it because I didn't feel comfortable saying yes or no with no explanation on some of the questions.

The partner emails me before a conference call and ask me to take lead for him, so of course I say yes, then he just straight up doesn’t show up for the call? SIRRR
I'm thinking about applying for 2 new bars because I will or want to have business in those states. I don't want to appear pro hac for different reasons mostly I have enough business. What are my concerns with becoming a member of 3 bars besides dues? Looks like CLE's will likely overlap. So it's just the application.
How did you land your first job after law school? Excluding OCI. There are far too many of my peers from my graduating class still unemployed.
Perhaps a spicy take: signature pages are much more substantive than people are willing to admit. You need to understand structure, authority (and whether it’s granted by the operating agreement or by resolution), local recording requirements (for us RE folks), and all sorts of other information like notice addresses that a paralegal or admin likely doesn’t have handy. Most of the time when “something as easy as signature pages” is staffed out, that person is not set us for success.
How would you describe the work culture Vialto Partners ? What is the base salary for a law clerk staff ?

Thinking about moving from transactional (this work is ungodly boring) to litigation after 1.5 years. The writing samples I have most relevant to litigation is an opinion from a state appellate court my 1L summer and an MSJ I did well on from a 3L legal writing course. Is there a preference for litigation roles?
What's your A/R per month or per quarter? Please list area of law and years of practice. So many posts about billable hours but at the end of the day, isn't it all about the dollar dollar bills y'all?
I spent all day on a memo that should not have taken all day just as a matter of principle (i.e., this memo will not beat me.) The memo was about damages but involved technical concepts I am unfamiliar with and requires extensive research. I called my expert, reviewed transcripts (3 volumes of one expert) and my own work product (summaries of invoices). I might just bill the 6 hours it took me to prep this one memo… (😅) just venting…
For the LGBTQ+ lawyers, if your firm offers reproductive assistance, how did you start the process of planning to start a family? Are there better years as an associate to target having a child? How do you (or should you) approach it with your partner leadership, or should you just dive right in with the HR contacts? Any advice would be really appreciated!
HELP! I accepted an offer last week to join a firm starting on Monday. And I received a much, much better offer today. How bad would it be to renege?
At what point is it too late for an associate to transition from big law to a plaintiffs’ firm?
Any advice on transitioning out of law to anything else that pays around the same (180+)? I’m 3 years out of law school. 1.5 at a small law firm and 1.5 big law. M&A practice group. Too soon to go in house? I hate billable hours and have no life working 2100 hours a year.
Thinking about my current options: Would you rather be a “service partner” at a big firm, or a partner with your own book at a small firm? Why?
Real talk: why do we spoil summer associates the way we do? Literally no other industry comes close
The clients that always nitpick the bill are the same clients that will ignore you all week and then respond at 2:30 on a Friday and say they’re available for a call at 5 pm. Change my mind.
If a recruiter asks what your average billable hours are, will you ever have to show proof of this number or no?
