Hey! Sorry that your manager isn't being flexible with you :/ If it's something you want consideration for, you can always set up a formal flex plan (not all of them are for reduced schedules! For instance, one of my seniors has really intense migraines associated with her time of the month, and works early mornings/late nights instead of the day for that week to take a nap while there are bright lights that can trigger stuff, another senior is the primary caretaker for her mom with altzheimers, and her hours are 10-6 because it's what worked best with her and her husband's schedule with regards to having a day nurse, and one of my managers takes a half day every other friday and makes up the hours later, and they still all receive 100% salary) in which your manager doesn't really have choice.
It's like asking for permission to pee

Tell her it’s a medical emergency, and you will try to take care of missed work later/into this weekend

If you are in the US, you are entitled to accommodation for medical reasons. Speak with HR.

Just tell her you’re going to take the time, if your work is getting done she can’t tell you anything.

HIPPA. You're not required to say why. Say for medical reasons you will be offline from xx to xx but will make up the work later.

I believe they can only ask for a Dr note if over 3 days out sick. And if so, schedule a televisit and get a note!

Just do it. If she asks where you were, tell her you were having a massive diarrhea or that you passed out. What is she gonna do then? Ask for picture proof?! 💩💩💩

Or tell her you passed out because of the diarrhea.
I 💯 agree with most of the above. I would not have disclosed the exact nature of my personal medical concerns and they’re not allowed to ask. Get your work done. Period (no pun intended). People still take 10 minute smoking breaks several times a day totaling over an hour in addition to their lunch breaks. What if you were nursing, self injecting medication, taking a long walk to alleviate back pain, caring for a family member who is ill? You don’t want to put yourself in a position of lying about being at work if you’re not, but you don’t have to share all and be denied a basic accommodation. Good luck.

Next time don’t ask and maybe start taking a half hour a day to start looking for a new job with better manager 😉
Agree. Don’t ask.
Or you can just be online and go take a nap. No one will ever find out!

Just take the sick time. They can't do anything about it.
I'm not wanting to downplay your manager's response at all, because I think you went about it in the right way and your boss should be more accommodating. But have you thought about getting this checked out further with a doctor or specialist? There could be an underlying issue that could also have a simple and effective remedy.
