Asking for a friend..
Say you left an audit firm and entirely by chance you ended up working for an audit client's company (a Big 4 firm in this case), but for a different audit team. Is there anything you need to worry about for independence rules?

I have no idea what your friends theoretical situation is based on your post.

like

What are you even talking about? Like if you left PwC where you audited company A, and you went to EY and EY then won the audit of company A and you were also on that team?

like

Below did not help

Is it public company?

You're fine. You were never hired by the public company, right? You're just auditing them again from a different firm? It's not like you're auditing your previous firm or something where there might be a conflict of interest. There is no issue at all - cooling off periods, etc. only apply if you're hired by the client

Yeah - this post doesn’t make a lot of sense.

Please add more details. K-thanks 👋🏻

Thanks for the heads up. More below

Sure, like if you left A to go to B, where both A and B are public audit firms and a large entity within B was A's (and your) client. However, you join a different team in B. Is there an independence issue?

This still makes no sense. If A and B are public audit firms, A isn’t auditing B. Said differently, PwC is not auditing EY.

So stuck. What do I do? I joined this firm a year ago (4 yrs exp total) to grow/get more court/client exposure. Then 2 more-experienced associates were hired, pandemic, & all cases are divided between the other 2. I have no defined tasks except deficiency letters or the odd pro bono case. Boss claims it's mentoring. I still need to meet bill req.

Last wk Boss said I'll do more & my work was good, but today said I can't 2nd chair bc I don't have experience. I'm doing less now than my prior firm.
