Preeclampsia doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with weight, doctors don’t know what causes it. Please don’t look at it as not gaining weight but as being as healthy as you can by eating right and being active of you are able. Just for reference my good friend is very thin, runs 8 miles a day and developed preeclampsia.
Thank you. Of course weight isn't the key but definitely a factor and one that I can play an active role on.
Get your doctor to also write you a prescription for an at home blood pressure monitor. I got it through my pharmacy and insurance covered it. I took my blood pressure every morning and tracked it in an excel sheet. When I became high risk and started seeing my doctors every week, I would bring my laptop and pull up my excel sheet. He asked me if I was an accountant, lol… but seriously, it gave me peace of mind and we were able to get ahead of any issues.
Thank you! Great suggestion

Just sharing that for both of my pregnancies, I had preeclampsia, with no signs of it at all until I went into labor. My first pregnancy, they did the usual screenings, but weren’t especially vigilant since nothing ever showed up.
For my second, I was extremely vocal at every appointment, what can we check, what can I do, I’m worried about preeclampsia. The doctors and midwives were very helpful, we did all kinds of screenings, etc., and again, no signs. Then went into labor and my BP was sky high.
Unfortunately, as mentioned above, I don’t think there’s anything we can do to prevent it. It’s just a mystery syndrome right now, it seems. Definitely get a NEW at-home BP cuff, and take it to your doctor’s office and have them show you how to use it properly. Specifically, they can take your BP with the cuff, as well as their own machines and compare how accurate the cuff is. Some of them are terrible, so it would be good to go through it with your doctor or their staff to make sure you’re doing it right and getting good data. Best of luck and wishing you a safe delivery!
A1: that is what my doc is concerned about. Though all reports are normal now, he is cautioned about preclampsia during labor. So, put me on baby aspirin from 23 weeks. I cudnot take it before as I had SCH which resolved and he gave me a thumbs up to take it as precaution.
I take magnesium supplements all the time and I also took them while pregnant. I recall reading it may help. Ask your doctor Good luck
I will thanks. I also read calcium would be good too.
Take a look at the book "Functional Maternity" by Sarah Thompson. I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and using this as a guide to prevent the same outcomes. Good luck!!
Thank you!
I’m 32 weeks and my doc put me on baby aspirin since week 12. I’ve had a history of blood pressure and sometimes it’s high but it’s usually low/normal for the most part, but taking aspiring for just in case
Not sure there is anything you can do to prevent it except try to rest, exercise, eat healthy, take the baby aspirin. My doctor said they prescribe baby aspirin for everyone over 35. Unfortunately I did all of these things and still developed preeclampsia and had to be induced at 37 weeks. Thankfully baby and I were both fine, but I was not prepared for him to come so soon! Note I had no symptoms, felt completely fine throughout pregnancy, didn’t realize anything was wrong until they took my blood pressure and checked my urine at a routine checkup. I also continued to have high blood pressure postpartum and had to be readmitted to the hospital, on drugs and can’t drive. Best wishes, OP!
Same thing with me my first time. Had no symptoms until my blood pressure was slightly elevate at 38 weeks and the checked my liver enzyme level to see it was critically high. I know I can't control it but trying to put my best foot forward. Thanks
Got my 15 week GD test results and I'm well within normal levels ❤ I'm sure I'll need to be tested again but that made me so happy 😊

Congratulations! You are doing great mama!
Just an update: 28 weeks and took the GD test again and was well below the cut off again 🥳 I'm so happy.
yes - I am 35+ with first. My BP is as normal as it can get (120/80) but still doc prescribed baby aspirin to prevent preclampsia. It is caused by high protein in 24 hr urine test. If the urine test comes back as having protein more than 300, then it is suspected that preclampsia may happen. I asked my doc for mag supplement but he is against this. Because I am
taking Mylanta eveyday and there is magnesium and I may overdose. He did recommend me to take cal supplements though. I am 23 weeks and gaines only 9 lbs so far.
Thank you ❤️

Get tested for GD early on this time! Usually, the OB will do this around 16 weeks but if not insists. GD and preeclampsia are both at some part out of our control, but being healthy (food and exercise) does help. Also, getting a nutritionist referral early on might help. My SIL was in similar position and having a nutritionist guiding her early on helped her so much. Ultimately, she did end up with preeclampsia but she was able to avoid GD and the baby is healthy.
Thanks ❤️
