I joined KGS in feb 2022, we recently got a mail regarding timeline of appraisal and bonus payout from the partner. My reporting manager hasn't yet reached out to me regarding goal setting, not sure if that happens here. Can you pls help me to know what all things we need to do from our end for the appraisal cycle and bonus payout? Since I'm new to this company KPMG KPMG India

Modern day senior creative. Come up with ideas. Guide juniors on the projects the CDs don’t want to touch. Just so many people in the business now they need to create new roles to promote into.
Every agency is different. And I've experienced it differently in diffferent countries. Like in many big American agencies, ACDs are essentially senior creatives. No real extra responsibilities.
I have no CD either. I run day to day on a handful of accounts with very little oversight from the ECDs. Either doing the work myself or CDing junior to senior teams doing the work. On bigger, more award-worthy projects I still run the day to day, but my ECDs like to be more closely involved.
I’m basically a senior creative, but I do get to manage junior teams on some projects. Other than that, not so different from being a senior CW.
Well, ACD is the title, and you can look at it as senior senior creative, or you can look at it as junior CD - a middle ground where you continue creating your own work but learn things about managing junior teams, presenting directly to clients, and speaking with authority to other disciplines like account and strategy. I’ve done good work at my agency, won awards, and won new business, so yeah, I think I’ve earned the right to get more experience doing all of that in preparation for an eventual move to CD.
And it does depend on the agency, sure, mine does tend to skew towards ACDs not doing much management because we are a little bloated with CDs, but we’re by no means a bad or even mediocre shop... and it’s not a fake title.
@op, same boat here. Except I’m just a regular ‘ol AD. No CD on my account. I report directly to the ECD. And I basically run the day to day on the agency’s largest account. I’ve asked for a title adjustment hoping at least for a senior title but they’ve been dragging their feet. I’m feeling more and more that it’s time to go...
All depends on your agency. At mine, the only title above CD is CCO. Because of that, ACD’s operate like CD’s in normal shop, and CD’s are more like ECD’s. ACD’s only get that title by running an account. In other shops, I know creatives with an ACD title that would be mid level at a decent shop and have the same responsibilities as mid levels
👆🏻salty.
Are you referring to me, ACD3?
Just thought your comment about “decent shops” was funny and a liiiiiiitle bit salty sounding, haha. Some of us earn it even at places where we don’t run accounts. nbd.
I get what you’re saying, but you said yourself you’re basically a senior creative. If you’re not managing creatives on a full time basis, and not running a piece of business, how exactly have you earned the ACD title? Not trying to be a dick so please don’t take it that way, I’m sincerely asking... and full disclosure, I’m an ACD, I just haven’t updated my LinkedIn.
Agreed. I’d say you’re selling yourself short on the senior creative comment, and you seem to fit more in the junior cd category
