It's the same in MO at jp. Analyst = base + ot+bonus, associate = no ot sometimes with salary stagnant (!!!)+bonus. Plus, if the analyst is in a program I heard they get paid a bit more than an analyst not in a program and they get much higher bonuses bc it comes out of the program pool and not the dept.
Ok to clarify for everyone (ops person here) - analysts w overtime eligible roles clearing 50hrs/week will pull in 80+ after base + bonus (small) + overtime. OT has been cut for a variety of groups. Associates in ops have (unfortunately) always gotten fucked with more responsibility + essentially less pay when you consider said responsibility compared to analysts (usually end up with a few more k at the end of the year but in my opinion this is not worth it whatsoever). @MS you're preaching to the choir. Surprised you had no idea about this if you've been in the role for three years. Sadly that's just the way things are at big banks in ops on the street.
Duh
Just go up to your manager, say something eerie like "got a minute?" And then as soon as you sit down in the office be like "YO WAS UP"
That is impossible. That analyst is fooling you. Analysts whether in banking or Ops have very standardized pay. Analyst 1 Ops at 80K is unheard of. How do you believe in that? More like 55K.
OT is overtime...1.5x their hourly rate. I'm bonus eligible though but I have no idea how this happened.
Still does not clear. 2014 paybump brought up BO pays as well altho not as significantly as FO roles. Plenty of friends in those roles starting at 65+. 55k is so pre2014
So leave. That's absolutely appalling, and management is stupid if they think you'll never sac up and walk out.
OT?
Isn't everything standardized? How is this even possible?
Is it same department?
Yes, we are on the same team reporting to the same manager. The analyst is straight out of college with no previous work exp and I have been on the same team for the past three years. I'm really confused.
Ya, I was just confused on the ot eligibility. What is your bonus structure? It likely trumps his 1.5x all in
This is the first year that I'm bonus eligible, but I heard in the past that bonuses aren't much (10k to 14k). The analysts make more with overtime. They could reel in 6 figures with that 1.5x
Standardized pay in its own division, stupid. IBD vs IBD, Ops vs Ops.
You're a cost center, of course they're bending you over
Yeah @OP if your long term goal is to stick around ops I'd recommend bouncing around and upping that base or going to a fund and doing ops.
Thanks guys. Nice to get some validation. Good to know that I'm not overthinking.
guarantee you your dollar stretches further down there. COL bruh
I made a boatload in OT at JPM, but didn't wanna take the pay cut with the promotion to associate upon finishing the ops analyst program. I highly recommend doing a jump (buy side, best side!) and getting a better salary
