McKinsey & Company I’m in between having accepted my offer and starting. I’ve read advice recommending getting your WFH set up ready before starting, and want to take that. I assume the answer is “no”, but could I spend my $150 one-time WFH allowance now and submit expense receipts after starting? Any chance they’d pay back spending prior to start date that was within a certain window (my last company allowed this for moving-related expenses, as an example) of the start? McKinsey & Company
I’m waiting for my background check as I accepted an offer for Remote Licensed Insurance Customer Service Rep. While I’m a 1099 for my current role, I still haven’t told them I am leaving for a full time role that can change my life. It’s a small agency, and I’ve gotten close with the director. She’s the employment reference I gave; I’m a nervous that when they receive the call to verify employment, my days will be difficult. I’d hate to be let go before I start with LM. Thoughts? I was hired as a contract employee as a Technical Support Specialist with a base pay of 60k. Now the management is interested in making me a full time employee after my contract ends. I was wondering if anyone is willing to share their net pay as a TSS with 6YOE. So that I have a number to negotiate. OpenText
Sooo... thoughts on virtual symposium?

I started in a remote position in January 2021. This was a transition from fully in-office in my last job. While I have integrated well with the team (i.e. I have plenty of work), the personal connections are just not there (despite intentionality on my part). This is probably worsened because some of our team members are in other states. It really depends on how much social interaction you need and want in the workplace. For me, I am really missing my “work buddies” from my previous position.
Same for me as AA1, also lateraled in January. I think it’s okay to be mostly remote as long as you can see your team in person a couple of times each year.
I started remote in fall of 2020 and have also no personal connections. I don’t personally mind it, but the difficulty was not knowing who to ask stupid questions to as you would to a work friend (or anyone to vent to that would know exactly what you’re talking about lol). To compare, my friend started at a different place remotely last April and her team has weekly zoom meetings/group chats etc so she feels very connected to her colleagues without having met them. So I think it may depend on work culture and the team as well.
I started remote in December 2020. I moved from biglaw to a large boutique firm. I feel integrated in that I’m busy and I think I have a good reputation with my team, but as others have said, I feel a little disconnected. I’m starting to go back into the office 2 days per week, but I do feel like an outsider even though I’ve been at the firm for 7 months now. I also typically work directly with the partners (we’re leaning staffed) so I really miss opportunities to check in with associate peers and get a sense for what they’re doing/how they’re doing. Overall, I do think it’s impacted my career (not that I had much of a choice given the pandemic). I also think it’s caused me a lot of stress and anxiety because I don’t have peers to vent to or commiserate with when things get difficult.
Following. I have interviews with similar situations and am weighing the pros and cons of such an arrangements.
I lateraled in fall 2020. While working from home has been great, I think it definitely did impact my ability to make connections and feel like part of the team, and also has made it a bit more difficult to get work. Unless they make a very concerted effort to include you and keep you in the loop, I’ve found most people tend to stick with the people they know well already and partners often just end up defaulting to the associates they already have relationships with.
